25:50-'It wasn't the Gulag in the Soviet state, but the Soviet state itself WAS the Gulag!' That is the most astute description of the Soviet Union I have ever heard. I will have to write that quote inside the cover of my copy of Solzhenytsin's Gulag Archipelago. Thank you very much for that Zoltan.

I'm glad something is being done to remember these poor people who suffered and likely died in these terrible places! Thankyou for memorializing their plight!

Yes, thank you Zoltan for your work. I am currently on chapter 4 of Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipilago. It's chilling to think what those poor souls had to endure. Bravo for Alexandr's work.

Interesting documentary, I’m just reading the long walk by Slavomir Rawicz ..,a Polish escape from the Siberian gulag , they suffered tremendously just getting to the gulags before the work even began , truly a barbaric treatment of human life. It was good to see the areas the camps were located in and the history behind them .

45:22, this man is an extremely brave soul, spending the night in the Siberian wilderness all by himself. Out there, it's total silence!

@ 50'11" If [we keep] our eyes open, we are obliged to remember." Sure enough, although such insightful remark won't cut much ice with most of the Russian people (including with those living in the Arctic Circle area, for example), whose psyche hasn't changed much changed since feudal times. Sadly, I believe your message has been received by maybe less than half of the planet -- and definitely not by the most of the Russian people because, as you pointed out earlier in your documentary, we may live in global world, but today's major problem (which this global village is confronted with) is that of poor communication or miscommunication. Case in point -- who does understand Hungarian in Russia and, more worrisome, who in Russia (and in any other Russian speaking area) would be able to go over your English subtitles since lack of English language skills is notorious among native speakers of Russian?

Actually the English subtitles to this video are in very good English and look like they were written by a native speaker or at least checked over by a native speaker. Congratulations to everyone involved in the making of these historic films. How ironic (and tragic) that they are not being made by Russians but by foreigners. What a classic example of 'fake' history, worthy of the Soviets, that the received version of the town's history is that it started in the early seventies.

At that moment I was thinking the same thing , it really made me think. Zoltan is/was able to put it in clear words. A lesson how the mind of a societies' leadership can deteriorate to complete sickness. BTW eery to sleep there, the eyes of the dead are pricking through the skin.

In the middle of an abandoned arctic tundra, the narrator goes on a lengthy 10 minute rant regarding Gramsci, propaganda and the modern Prince. I guess those Russians really left you with something to think about it.
