I've can definitely relate to the disappointing feeling of realizing your favorite lyric in a song is one you're mishearing. There's one song where I was like 'did you just drop the word indubitably on me at the climax of the song' and then I looked it up and the Internet claims it's actually 'and you'd better bleed'. I still sing indubitably.

I still think about how Guilty Gear Strive didn't have official lyrics for their songs, and everyone heard the first line of Potemkin's theme as "I'm A Clown Of Fate" until the official track listing came out as "Armor-Clad Faith" How do you even make a line that goes as hard as "I'M A CLOWN OF FATE" by accident, while still perfectly embodying the character of the song

that would tie in with further lines in the song too. "i may look like a silly clown but i won't turn my back on life" is the last line of the hook and probably why people read the opening that way.

hah, yeah I feel you. often when I mishear lyrics in songs it's usually what I want to hear or something that relates to myself or the emotions the song brings. even when I know what the lyrics are, for as long as I can remember my brain has always interpreted new lyrics to pre-existing songs for a different style of context. this really started to occur the first time listening to Technologic by Daft Punk

I'm a pretty fast reader and sometimes I just completely misinterpret what was being said, and yeah just like mishearing things a lot of the time it just causes confusion but there have been a few times where the "real" text was a bit disappointing compared to what I thought the phrasing or meaning was.

Funny timing that this ended up on my recommended, because I only today realised I'd been mishearing one of your songs, With My Tail To The World. For MONTHS I thought the lyric was "the *quill* i brought to class", only to go on your Bandcamp and see that it was "quale", a philosophical term and not a feather you use to write. I guess my brain made an association with "i brought to class" and went, ah, yes, quill, to write with, in class. Quale makes a lot more sense, but I still like the "quill" thing - like, you're the only person who brought a quill to class instead of a pen, it still kind of works with the meaning that lyric is meant to imply.

Another one of these lyrical ambiguities I love is from the sungazer song Cytherean. As I heard it, it was "From the place to where the rivers go, if ever they return again", which both really fits the vibe of the song, and is also a cool statement given that cytherean can refer to the planet venus so suddenly it's about climate change. The official lyrics are apparently "From the place to where the rivers go, thither they return again" which isn't nearly so much of an emotional drop kick. Oh and also on Pix and Bit, I can't help but hear "IM GONNA END THIS PLACE" in Cilantro, where the lyrics say "GOLD GRENADE IN THIS PLACE" which I can hear if I really try. Both lyrics work tho.

When this happens to me I just steal the mishearing and try to work it into my own lyrics, because if they didn't have the guts to use banger lines such as "just suffer blues" or "you're a Homo Raytheon" then I will have to pick up their slack

I thought jay z said “all white life, I got the whole thing bleached” on no church in the wild as a point of pride in his career living carefree as a rich black man treated like a white person with a very visceral comparison to bleaching every part of his life He said “like” it was a throwaway bar about his car interior :(

The only song of hers i felt an actual emotional connection was "worms". The melody has such a melancholic vibe and is so simple, yet so effective to me. And the lyrics work (mostly). It gives me the feeling that the angle is like that meme "the horrors persist but so do i" kind of thing. Btw, she scares me. I do not know why. The only thing I'm afraid of is dementia or losing the people i love, AND i love bugs. Why am i made incredibly uncomfortable by this blue-chaired edgy hyperpop artist 🙃

At the rate that your videos keep preemptively cutting off the "Thanks for watching" more and more, soon enough we're only going to be left with a "Thanks for" and "Thanks" before the video ending starts eating away at the core text of the video! Should be fun.

Both of your misheard lyrics combined actually remind me of Juni Ito's Tomi. (Spoilers for anyone who hasn't read it btw. It's really good. You should read it instead of this comment. Seriously.) She grows from various part of her old body and blossoms into her full beauty until she is inevitably murdered again and multiplies. She's also a terrifying and powerful presence that always survives no matter what, but, I mean, she gets murdered over and over again every time no matter what. She always ends up losing control and even if she comes back again, it's kind of worse because she'll never be free from that eternal cycle. A song that brags about how powerful and scary she is with the line "I'm terrified" just dropped in kind of fits Tomie perfectly

I got a thing like this with the song "Last Kiss" by Pearl Jam (only the Pearl Jam cover, not the original) where I always misheard the line "so I got to be good" as "so I got to be goin'", which I felt was a really interesting kind of acceptance. Like, his girlfriend died horribly right next to him and he's just kinda moving forward.

Honestly you've gotta be kinda careful when looking up lyrics, when I think I've maybe misheard something but that misheard thing is a banger of a lyric I always hesitate to check what it really is so I can still hear it skdjdk. hayloft by mother mother went so much harder for me when i thought the "my daddy's got a gun you better run" was actually another language and I could freely speculate on what it might mean

I think it's so easy to hear "terrified" instead of "terrifying" not only because of how it's pronounced in a way that blurs the line between the two, but also because it just *feels* like the best option after "ice", both in rhyme and timing. The only music theory I know is my anxiety's theoretical catastrophe scenarios that spawn every time I have piano lessons, but I can at least say that, to *me*, the single held syllable out of nowhere places more emphasis on it and consequently enhances the theme of underlying uncertainty it adds in. Just...it feels like it was MEANT to be there...suffice to say i got like, Slightly Mad - like a Normal Amount of Mad but still Mad, when I myself first found out it wasn't the case
