I met Anna Karen and Michael Robbins in the 1990s, when they were in a stage version of "On the Buses", in Toronto, Canada. I'd sent a note backstage, before the show, and afterwards, Anna and Michael said it had meant so much to them, especially so far from their home, to know that somebody out there in the audience (which was, sadly, rather small) cared enough to let them know how much their work meant to her. Usually, matinees are lower-energy, but this one had plenty of energy.

I do remember when the newspapers at the time and tv magazines announced that on the buses was returning in 1990 but unfortunately it never did. I don't think in a way it would of been a patch on the original classic 1970s series which i still love and always will, i think it's an hilarious series and have the complete collection on dvd of all 7 series of on the buses released by `Network' as well as the 3 spin-off 1970s films on dvd "On The Buses", "Mutiny On The Buses" and "Holiday On The Buses", i also think the three spin-films are every bit as funny as the series was. I actually prefer old 1970s sitcoms to all the modern so-called comedies of today. On the buses was a truly absolute classic sitcom that we will never see the likes of ever again, because of changing views of the world and of course a lot of 70s sitcoms are not P.C! Reg Varney (going on this interview) seemed like a really nice man and a true gent. Long may he rest in peace. The only cast member from 'On The Buses' still alive today is South African born 'Anna Karen' who occasionally in the past played 'Aunt Sal' in Eastenders no less. I hope she is well in these times of 'Lock-Down' because of Corvid-19. I have also posted the article on the planed sequel series of 'On The Buses', which is from "Wikipedia" in another post above for those of you interested in reading more about it.

@@StevenShaw How sad this mooted spin-off never materialised, it could’ve saved poor Bob Grant’s life. I recall seeing the then surviving cast on Wogan too and how rather blasé Terry appeared to be towards the venture (IMO). Maybe it was due to the Beeb having rejected the original sitcom idea; I was so pleased how it became such a big hit for ITV. It was always classic Sunday night TV for me as a child, and looked forward to discussing it the next day at school. I just re-watched Holiday on the Buses over Christmas on itv3 and was pleasantly surprised how it still made me crease up, especially the old Windsor Safari Park scene. Maybe the classic original is best left for us to savour. I know it was from a different era but I don’t think it offends anyone who still possesses a sense of humour.

Lovely to see Reg, but a bit of a car crash (or should that be bus crash) of an interview, what with a car alarm going off in the background. Pity On The Buses never made it back to the small screen. Nick Green it would be today yes. Because it would be watered down and very PC. It wouldnt work today, it is as you say best left alone and let the originals stay well loved and remembered. Can only imagine a show like that being pitched to a feminist at the itv or bbc building today,, theyd probably self combust and the one trying to sell it would be accused of all sorts and arrested. Sadly society isnt tolerant of anything different, despite preaching tolerence themselves.
