I enjoy your mapping but I also enjoy how you present it. You are the best! Couldn't have asked for a better mentor!

John, thank you very much for showing us this. Recently I had to work on a map of Chile and the feature class we used exported as a 45MB SVG. By following the steps on this amazing video I was able to generalize it, preserving much of the detail, it also exported as a 288kb SVG! Fantastic video, I can't thank you enough!

Always a joy to learn new techniques from you! If you ever have the inclination to, do you think you could show how to make a dot density population map where the populations follow the rivers and are in city clusters instead of being random? I have never been able to figure it out and cannot find any good examples to how to do it.

This is a good idea! The technique is called dasymetric mapping. Thanks for the kind words and your suggestion!

Thanks John for another amaizing video. I have tried using the technique, it works perfectly but takes a very long time to draw in my PC. Am I missing something? Thanks

Thanks Vincent! It depends on the complexity of the layer and your PC.

Hey John, is it possible to then convert the new symbolisation to geometry?... Thanks
@JohnNelsonMaps
8 ай бұрын
no, this is just a client-side visualization output, so there isn't a way to save it back to the geometry.

@@JohnNelsonMaps ah righto, cheers. I am trying to generalise a coastline (must always be generalised on the seaward side) but am struggling to find a solution.

@@mclab001 this sounds like a job for the generalize geoprocessing tool. alternatively, you might try out mapshaper.org/

How we can generalize rivers with a lot of curves?

Somebody told me this technique works with lines too but I haven’t tried it
