I saw these guys play for free in a college parking lot in 1982 right before texas flood came out. The stage riser was about 2 feet off the ground and Stevie played a full show with behind the back etc. I stood inches from them, got an autograph and said "you guys are gonna be big!" They looked at me like "thanks" and they knew it..... No one knew who he was. must have been a rehearsal before flood came out.

I met Chris and Tommy in 93 at Antone's one night... they were both the nicest folks you'd ever meet.

He said, "We were playing like we were breaking out of jail". That's a perfect description of SRV & Double Trouble. I have a new appreciation for their music now after listening to Chris talk about his life and career. He has always been my favorite blues drummer. I first heard him with SRV. I think I can listen to his music now with a new perspective. I love it when you get to do that. It almost makes the music new again. Good job with the interview.

I love this, “The whole thing was there was zero of a plan other than, “we like each other and we’re going… forward, is the idea.”

Chris seems like such a sweet guy. Thanks for sitting down for a great interview. I was thrilled to meet Tommy Shannon at a NAMM show years ago. Both of these guys are so humble and such gentlemen...They are a delight...

AMAZING interviewer!!! I'm not usually impressed by interviewers but he played his part flawlessly, and gave Mr. Layton a perfect opportunity to give the beautiful answers he gave. Blessed by God to hear this talk, thank you Vater and Co.

Never knew blue percussion, learned ,played recorded ,a basically new invention style of blues drums, then SRV, finds sobriety, now this genius drummer has to reinvent drumming again for the same music, and changed blues percussion yet again , all because his sister played a record a 45 ,twister ,was it , unbelievable, only a drum god genius could do this

I studied the way Chris played drums in the early 90s to be a better drummer in our Southern/Classic/Country Rock band. Then, unbelievably to me, drummers I looked up to came to watch us play to study what I`d learned.

Great interview Dom !! So good to see you both together, as both of you are two of my favorite drummers! The last time I talked to you was in 1989 at Musicians Institute. Hopefully you will get to talk to him some more about all the great recordings he did after the SRV years. There’s a lot of unique and inspirational playing on them to discuss. Keep up the great work! Cheers from Connecticut.

I can totally see why Stevie would say "I wanna play with this guy." You wouldn't think he was a drummer, listening to him, whatever that means coming from me.

But, who would play Stevie? He's a one in a billion.

I think that's the very problem they have.. nobody comes close, and actors today aren't getting any better, in my opinion.
