I am glad I opted for the 3.2 6cyl. Plenty of juice, and I don't have the same complaint with the transmission. I am over all a very satisfied Cherokee Trailhawk owner. Oh, and the off roading... extremely impressive.

i have put 3500+ miles on the trailhawk with 3.2 l engine. so far so good. all the pros aside, the cons: dramaticcally lower mpg when it is cold. during winter: 16-17. now in spring, 20-21. heavy car and you can feel it when traveling uphills and downhills. the breaking is a little soft which makes me want more braking power.

This is one of them vehicles where you either love it or hate it. I love it!!! Oh, it's NOT a crossover!!!! This is much better than the other brands he said competes with Cherokee. For cargo space in the back, it's a little smaller than my Pro 4X Xterra....The Trailhawk is a TRUE off road 4X4 machine!

most people probably have the inline 4 cylinder which doesn't have the guts to pull 5,000 pounds of vehicle which is why they probably complain about the transmission

i am so glad that cooley reviewed this vehicle and i was kinda of disappointed to see the one he got his hands on was with a 2.4 l engine. if you want to buy this suv, make sure you go for the 3.2 pentastar engine. it is only 1 or 2 shy in the number of mpg but, worth it. btw, imo, it is actually better looking in person and actually looks really badass on the road especially the trailhawk with all the lights on.

New review.... I towed with the Trail Hawk on a 2400 mile round trip. No major mountains but some pretty good hills going west across South Dakota into the wind with some pretty good size hills towing around 2000 pounds, trailer was higher then the car by about 2 foot and it had a v nose to cut the wind. At the end of the trip I was getting 14 miles to the gallon which lead to a lot of stopping for fuel but it ran at 70 miles an hour with the trans staying in around 5th gear (give a gear or two each way) depending on the hill conditions. All in all I was happy with it but the manual says it can tow up to 3500 lbs and I am not sure it would do that well and it would be hard on the trans with that much weight.

That's odd that he doesn't like the transmission; my family has the AWD with the 3.2L V6, and I've always felt that I can tell the car what gear to be in by just prodding (or easing off) the gas pedal. It's kinda like there's a middle area where you do most of your cruising, but if you push past a certain point the car doesn't hesitate to downshift, and it'll hold that gear nicely until you slightly let off. The only issue is that when you floor it the power doesn't come in until much later, but other than that it's a great transmission (in my opinion).
@stig120212

+SketchRC but you also have the V6, i think the problem he had with the trans was with the 2.4l
@aronjohn84

sorry disagree with the trans. Parents have one and its a V6. and its responsive. Not only that ...LISTEN. put the shifter in manual shift. IT WILL HOLD THE RED LINE!!! IT WILL NOT SHIFT UNTIL YOU SHIFT IT!!! It not a mess. Im sorry. BEST THING FOR ANYONE....go try it yourself.

+djreyes92 I test drove a 2015 model from a Carmax in Colorado. It was a very nice vehicle, however, do not get your hopes up on the acceleration. It was less than what I peronsally would perfer. That aside, the vehicle as a whole is a slam dunk. I didn't purchase it because I also had my eyes on a 2010 Jeep Commander 4x4 Limited w/17,875 miles on it. But if that falls through, I will more than likely go for the this model.

+Gabba Shanking especially since CDs haven't completely gone away quite yet. When British soul singer Adele released her current album "25" last fall, more people (especially in America) bought the CD of her album than downloaded and streamed it to their Bluetooth device. Also, people who can't use their devices to play music or watch a movie if their devices don't work use CDs and DVDs as a backup device. That's why I won't buy a car without a CD player.
@Shorty15c4007

Patrick Langan 99% of people aren't audiophiles, so mp3 streaming over Bluetooth is adequate enough for most people anyways. CD takes up space anyways. And now we are starting to see people not even buy music anymore with so many streaming services out now.

Despite some positive things about this vehicle, Consumer Reports does not recommend this model at all. The 4 cylinder engine is slow with a 9 speed automatic transmission and gets almost the same fuel economy as the V6 model. Another reason for bad fuel economy is that it weighs for the 4 cylinder model around 3,900 pounds, because of sound deadening materials, which they put too much.
@kevman949

Cooley is saying that a lot of automatics feel like CVTs including the new Mazda 6's six speed auto. I haven't heard any other review say the 6 feels like a CVT. Maybe he is just very picky? :)

I agree with Cooley on this the power train. I drove the 4 cyl. While adequate, I wonder with all the people, and cargo I carry how will it do? I went with V6, and it was a great choice, totally different feel for the vehicle. Averaging 25 MPG overall with the 4 x 4 Latitude model. Didn't really care about how much the Trailhawk costs, nor did I need all that stuff. By the way, top of the range is the Limited Mr. Cooley. The 3.2 V6 is a must have. Yeah that ZF 9 speed is different, but still better than a CVT!
