Use to drive a T800 with a 525 Cat and truck was a beast and that whistle! Awww man sounded so good! I'm in a T880 now and I can here the turbo a lil. Definitely no where near T800.

Nothing like the song of a Cat turbo in harmony with straight pipes when mashing! And then the Jake brakes put that "Hell Yeah" grin on your chin... LMAO. It never gets old when exiting off the interstate and the truck stop is right there and all the fuel pumps are facing the interstate and everybody can't help but to hear that Big Cat exhale so sweetly and slows to a low growl. All I need is some gold tipped shit kickers and a 10 gallon hat when I step out my W900L, 6'4 tall and 330lbs and they call me shorty😂

Annoyed by the turbo whistle?!? It's a mix of a bunch of new style trucks. Old school will always be cool. The turbo whistle and the exhaust singing a tune as you roll down the highway.

Yeah, but something new isn't always bad. W900 is a great truck and the new W990 will slowly make its own way as a great truck. It has a great start using the T680 platform.

I fuckin love it. And I absolutely loved my old W900 i used to have. To me its a worthy addon to the lineup. I don't listen to grumpy old farts who can't change a lil bit here and there. For 1, I've got more miles in reverse than they do forward, and 2, I'm willing to be open to new designs and new tech. If it makes my job easier and more comfortable, im all for it. And these new W990's are way more comfortable riding than my old W900. They're not as intimidating as the old style, but they still have a certain flare to them. Still looks better than most other trucks on the road.

The same cliches of "everything that isn't W900 will fall apart" is silly, just like their thoughts on image being more important than safety and comfort. Of course, these are the same people who also fight over football and car brands, which is really just about as stupid as it gets. It’s a fucking 680 with a different hood. And what disgust me the most is nothing about it inside has the “truck” feel. It’s a fucking 680 inside. Hey and you know what, the 680 is a good ride, but a totally different class of truck. I think this is a great truck, but in regards to ever be a flagship or replace the 900... no just hell no. If they lowered it, and made the inside a real truck I’d be much happier. I’m a purist and an enthusiast. My opinion is factual and is that of all purist

*NOTHING* beats the W900L !! When I look at the W990, I find myself trying to convince myself to like it. But then when I see a W900L, it's INSTANT that I love the W900L and no longer interested in the W990, Those intake air cleaning vents on the hood of the W990 look like the the round ones fell off and you put a band-aid on the dam truck to cover up the holes!! This Old Fart talks about the whistling of the old cleaners... well, I love the sound!~ They'll say anything to convince guys to go for the new crap.

Keep those W9 orders coming on in! I think the W9 gonna hang in there just like how the T800 is staying around even though the T880 is in the same category/market. Certain things people like about both and I feel that the W9 and W990 will be the same way.

The W900 has always been the ultimate, over the top, in your face, sweet large car with huge air breathers, huge stacks, huge grill, a mile long hood, leading to a massive Texas bumper all wrapped in deep chrome. The W900 driver is NOT about fuel economy, an all plastic interior, and most of all just another plane Jane truck. It always has been said if you are in a W900 you have conquered the trucking industry and ride in style. This is just an International 9900 with a KW logo.

As a owner of a 2009 Kenworth W900L I can honestly State I am not a fan of the 990. I fully understand the evolution of Design Within the industry on tractors. But the 990 even though it is Destin to replace the W900 it will never have the Regal look AKA presents of a W900. I remember when Peterbilt announce the day was stopping production of the 379 and the outrage that came from the loyal customers of the industry industry. If I remember correctly Peterbilt quickly redesign the 379 to be the current 389 just so they wouldn't lose the loyal customer base. I hope Kenworth does well with his new design but no you'll never replace the W 900. Looks like Part International, part Freightliner Coronado and dare I say it little bit of Swedish meatball Volvo mixed in.

Not seeing Volvo, International, Freightliner or Western Star. Made a photo with the International, Western Star and W990 and you have get over the fact that the W990 is something new and different and look at the details and body lines if the truck. That's where you'll see the difference. All the W990 is, is a T680 with the long hood like the W900 with the headlights and fenders from the T880S. The grille is a cross between the W9 and the new generation of Kenworth trucks with the center sphere and wire mesh incorporated in it.

@@NomadicSociety on the Peterbilt side of Paccar the 389 is selling better than the W900. Last I recalled the W900 and T800 made up around 10% of Kenworth production while the 389 was over 30% of Peterbilts production. Just don't see the larger fleets flocking to the W990. It might be a good rewards truck for a experienced driver, definitely not for someone who is just getting into trucking as a new driver.

I just don't understand the point. It's a modern truck trying to look like a classic truck... Which makes makes it not as good as a modern truck (aerodynamically speaking) and a very bad classic truck because you're not fooling anyone and its disposable unlike a classic truck tha can be rebuilt over and over.

The point is i want modern and larger inside then w990 but i HATE the look of "areodome" trucks. That is the point, also the reason gliders exist is because they build NEW truck chassis better. They are much more efficient weight placement and build wise. ASK any glider builder. They cant help todays engine selections. Its not their fault.

Idiotic design on Kenworths part. Should've updated the W900 with LED headlights and a more modern sleeper interior with goodies like the KIMS , bigger fridge, better insulation, better cabinets, LED interior lighting.... Etc etc

I'm quite sure that Peterbilt gonna release a long hood model with the 2.1 meter cab as well just like Kenworth has done with the W990. Usually when one side of Paccar does something the other side does as well. Could we see a Peterbilt 589 or something? Being that the 2.1 meter cabs seem to have a 5 as the 1st number versus a 3.

I'm not gonna poo poo all on it, but I wanted it to look more the w9 from the 70's. I already priced out the specs for one and trust me I did everything I could to get a glider. A 3" drop front axle with air ride and a 275" frame. Custom diamond interior, a detuned paccar (to save money and for emissions) I got my own trans and rear ends to put in. All in all came out to be around 149k. Let's not forget that the factory backorder is always 3 to 7 months behind.

As a guy who sell trucks for a living, Ill tell this is crazy disappointing. Sad day for the W900 and a sad day to say that the new Volvo, Mack and Freightliner are nicer trucks. Peterbilt will probably run out the 389 and that will be the end of that too. Paccar has completely lost its way of what their customer want. There styling cues look shit. and the quality of there materials are poor. Please Mr Pigett fire whatever team that is butchering your legacy and rehire the old ones. You've gone from people wanting your product to making them take your product. Whatever happened to "CLASS PAYS" and BTW worst shit looking dash ever of any truck I've ever seen., absolutely Zero personality, the Ford LT9000 had a nicer dash then that. Major Fail

Ehh... Just another T680 with a different hood and bumper. Which isn't a bad thing, those trucks are good, but what makes the W900L iconic is the unique long nose and the fact that the air breathers were sticking out on the outside, and we can't forget, that the W900 is the only factory built truck, that offers 86 inches of living space,two cabinets on each side of the sleeper and a couch.

It doesn’t look bad at all. It’s no W900 either. They should have raised the roof like the W900 from where it is now just below the height of the trailer with a little wing at the end to push the air over the trailer, and stretched it to a 90” Studio Sleeper being its a 990. Then it would look good.

I think it looks great. Just wish they could upscale the interior for it. Rather than a direct swap from the 680 series tractor. Obviously the cab is that of the 680 but they could have made this with its own interior. Give the market another reason to buy it besides just the hood.

I think that the w990 is a great looking truck, however if they are going to continue to make that w900 they really need to get rid of that old 1980 style shelfing in it. You can't mount a flat screen TV in it, neither can you put a full size microwave in it. The w990 has the w900 beat in that category! So way to go kenworth!! Keep on building THE WORLD'S BEST!😉👍

@@mrkw1103 Negative. The shelving/cabinetry in the sleeper just needed updating. Not a big task. The cab interior is perfectly fine and with smart nav it's modern.

@@100pyatt I think that the interior of the W900 and T800 could use an upgrade. Back when I had my 07 T800 the interior is still the same in the current trucks. Only difference is the newer trucks have the Nav Plus. Love the interior of the T680.

I guess it's okay, we'll get used to it. Put some red, black and gold Seminole type stripes on a white W990 and see how that looks. But I think Peterbilt is a little better at keeping the Pete look with their newer 567. I think the side air intakes look better than the ones on the KW. I'd like to see Peterbilt make a long and straight hood version of that truck, (and call it the 599?)... I think it would beat the W990 in the looks department.

Kw can say what they want truth is the w900 days are numbered,every other word out there mouth says this is its replacement a big plastic piece of crap,no interior style to it what so ever,just go buy a t680,same truck just better MPG. Absolutely hate that dash, Kenworth says that dash was designed by driver input,really??.. how tall were these drivers about 8 foot?..I'm 6ft and have to lean way up to reach the light switchs, they're so bright at night I had to use window tint on them,alot of other stuff I hated on my 680,why I got rid of it after a year. Now KW copy the crappy plastic gray fleet interior slaps in the w900's replacement and expects O/O's to accept it, all I can say there's going to be a lot of Peterbilt 389 sales going up, all that is is a fleet truck with a hood,go try to sell it to swift or warner,maybe some off the boat Syrian refugee, but I don't really see any true O/O's wanting to have anything to do with that plastic Fleet truck. The w990 prostar.

What Kenworth is doing with the 2.1 meter cab is no different from what they've done with cab on the T600,T800, W900 lines and the medium duty line. So it makes sense to add a long hood model to go along with the T680 and T880. I'm just wondering when the medium duty line will see the wider cab cause that line could use it. Freightliner, International and Hino in that market trucks have so much better visibility and room in the cab versus the Kenworths and Peterbilts.

I love this rig! I think it’s modern day truck for 2019/2020 that will leave its mark like the W900. This W990 looks like it feels comfortable and feels more than your king of the road w/ 2050lbs. of torque. Add a HERD super-train brush guard and this thing I think will be big, mean, and Boss of the road! Can’t wait to my hands on one!
