Both of them are beautiful watches but I personally think that the SARX is the better buy here. To me, it looks more proportioned and I much prefer having a titanium watch rather than a stainless steel one even if it's just for conversation, it's cool. No doubt, the SJE is the better watch in both movement and overall finish, but it's not worth double the price if you ask me :)

I added the SARX055 to my collection earlier in the year and just love how light the titanium wears and how the watch feels smaller than it actually is. The blued seconds hand and the case height make the SJE such an appealing watch to own, darn it! The comment at the end of your video stating that the 055 is kinda your "backup watch" has me thinking that I really do need to fork out some cash and add yet another watch to my collection. Thanks for the review!

Cool review. The SJE073 would leave me wanting a grand seiko, and so SARX055 fills that up market/premium scene a bit better for me. If I am paying $2k, I can pay another $500ish and find a nice GS. I guess the most compelling feature of the SJE073 is that it's less than 10mm thick.

Both very nice. I would probably go with the sje. I like the thinner profile. I might actually like the brighter SS material, too. I don't mind a watch with some heft to feel a little more substantial. And, maybe the texture of the sje dial shows up a little more. However, I'm not sure it's necessarily worth $1000 more over the sarx?

The SARX looks so much better to my eyes. The finishing of the titanium, the depth on the bracelet design, it looks more special and less generic. Plus the comfort and the lightness of the titanium, plus the thickness which is a plus if you have hairy hands like men have. And you save a ton of cash. The movement is definitely an indisputable advantage though to the new one.
@watchhans

I think the price difference primarily depends on the movement and case: the 6R15 is being baked like christmas cookies by Seiko, the 6L35 is still being produced in smaller numbers. The design of the watch-case of the more expensive one is more complicated than the cheaper one.

Enjoyed your video comparison of the SARX to the SJE. I just recently picked up both versions myself. However, I can only afford to keep one, the SJE073. Also, I agree with your thoughts on the value of the SJE073 long term (from your full review video). Only 1881 made & first time 6L35 movement has been used. And first Presage to have Zaratsu polished finishing. However, I think the MSRP should have been $1999, just under $2K. The price of $2,200 is hard to justify for most Seiko fans, myself included. Again, thanks for the comparison video!
@Michael-ot9bk
4 жыл бұрын
yea, $2200 is just too high. If you're gonna spend that kind of money on a Seiko just save up and buy a Rolex. Or spend $1600 and pick up a Monta Atlas. $2200 for ANY Seiko...other than a Grand is too much. The finishing on the Monta is ultra premium and it's moving luxury collectors over to micros. We're finally starting to see brands that can compete with true Luxury brands at a fraction of the cost. Seiko (as much as I love them) with never be seen as a luxury brand apart from the Grand Series. You can't make $10 watches and $10,000 watches and expect to be seen as luxury. The only thing I don't like about Seiko is that they have such a broad catalog. They should stop making crap and just stick with $300+ watches.

Aside from the other refinements, the SJE also has slightly longer hands which are a correction of the SARX (they don't quite touch the minute markers). Also the indices at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock are larger with more definition. Still, it's a narrow niche... getting into preowned GS Spring Drive territory here. @BryanO92
4 жыл бұрын
The salient question is whether the SJE is literally worth more than two SARXs, and the answer is an unequivocal no. The 6L movement they put in the SJE, from what I can put together, is a slightly modified legacy movement called the 4L, which IIRC Tag Heuer actually sourced for their infamous "in-house movement" scandal. Sure we have some refinements added, but I don't see how they raise a $1000 watch to $2200. What we see here is something that continues to play out at Seiko, where they're repositioning the brand upmarket, but they still have an incredible amount of NOS in the supply chain, so they will have these sorts of awkward comparisons until the NOS filters through. Within 5-6 years, basic Seiko automatics will start at about $250, and the 7S will be phased out completely because no one wants non-hacking movements anymore. Orient will be left to cover the starter range.
@AverageBros
4 жыл бұрын
You're thinking of a Chrono movement from the Tag in-house scandal. But yes, this is an evolution of the 4L25/4L75 movements that were found in more expensive Seiko and Credor offerings of the passed. Which the Swiss Soprod A10 movement is based, for an idea of the calibur quality, Sinn used to put the A10 in as an ETA 2892 alternative with models in in the $3200+ range. Currently all of Seiko's new 6L35 offerings are in $3.5k+ range for options just on leather straps that are considered regular production pieces, so the SJE073 being a limited edition w/a heat treated seconds hand, on bracelet, it's quite the steal. Also, this model is thinner than any automatic Grand Seiko currently on the market, with similar level of finishing. The SJE073 makes it tough to justify purchasing a used auto GS for more, than this brand new, even at full retail.
