Elaine de Kooning moved to 64 Carmine Street after being evicted with husband Willem from their larger Chelsea loft. Born in Flatbush, Brooklyn, Elaine de Kooning was a star in their social circle. She was also a talented art critic, writing more than 100 articles for ARTnews magazine. In 1954, she had her first solo show at Stable Gallery. As a mature artist, she was known for her portraits of President John F. Kennedy.
