I am slowly working up a complete kit for the Kato 11-109 power unit but not prime time yet. Thanks for building one!

Have to agree seeing end is great but seeing how you get there is even better. Gives us hope we can accomplish such greatness. And please, follow up video with your resolution(s) for cheaper way to power the display. Very interested in that as well!

This is going to be brilliant! I use a battery powered controller I bought. It's technically a Z scale controller, but it works with a 9 volt battery and it's called The Snail Speed Controller. It is a bit pricy at $48 US but I tested it out with an N scale switching locomotive, and it ran for about 60 hours before the battery gave up.

Brilliant info Jeff i found the company you mentioned Blueline i believe , the product looks good have emailed them for postage to UK , 60 hours or there abouts is great, do you think a station stop device would bring the battery life down by much ?

I'm looking forward to seeing more. I have built a 18 inch layout and am currently working on a 1/35th scale 1/35 n 2 layout so I'm interested.

Just the stuff I love to watch... thanks. Re the speed control, might be worth trying one of those wall wart power supplies with built in voltage selector switch....Amazon have them

this looks great! if i ever start my layout, it will be on18, i've already build 3 locos for it, using the kato 109 drive unit. if you disconnect your track power pack and leave the loco on the track, then get a 9v battery and touch it to the rails the loco will go a little faster than in your video, maybe (if it goes backwards, turn the battery around). you can slow it down by putting in a resistor. when you find the correct speed, you wire the resistor to the battery and install a switch to change the polarity to the track, for changing direction and a switch for stop and go, on/off. the japanese have been doing this for years on their micro layouts. i think you can even find a little panel kit from japan to do this very thing.

Greg thanks so much for the info re control, it sounds so easy the way you put it, but i would never of thought of doing it that way and it will keep the cost down nicely , our hobby is getting very expensive in my opinion and i believe we will have high prices for a number of years to come , i hope you build that layout theres not many On18 around, all the best Carl

Thanks so much Brian, i did feel uncomfortable doing this video ( bit like teaching a fish how to swim ) but then i thought hang on how many KZitem clips do i watch and think thats not a bad way of doing something , so hopefully the next one , part 2 will be better and i will try not to repeat myself so much, all the best Carl

@@carlroberts2539 l hear ya, it can feel a bit awkward when doing pieces like that, but you nailed it, an enjoyable watch. Seeing you do a full build is something I and many others will enjoy watching. Keep up the good work. 🤘
