This short really hit all the right notes. A beautiful love letter to Disney and the fans. It was very emotional to see Mickey standing in front of Walt's portrait to thank him because none of this would've been possible without Walt's vision and can-do attitude. And to see Scat Cat, Alan-a-Dale and Mirabel play When You Wish Upon a Star on their respective instruments followed by Belle, the Beast, Ariel, Quasimodo, Pocahontas, Baloo, Mowgli, Mulan, Snow White, Asha and Pooh singing was the cherry on top of a perfect sundae. Perfect way to pay tribute to them in my opinion. Having Jiminy being the last character to sing hit all the right spots not only because When You Wish Upon a Star is from Pinocchio but also because that song is the very heart of Disney. And yet those of us who know the circumstances of the studio during the mid-2000s are still wise enough to know that the whole reason their 3D movies came about in the first place during that time was always based on division against 2D, with the very intention of wanting those kind of movies to be replaced. But because they happen to show us brand new hand-drawn animation now (as beautifully gorgeous as it is) after most of the last decade was spent making an agenda out of only wanting to push 3D movies instead, now we're supposed to just want to celebrate all of the studio's animated films like the newer ones have never been any sort of unfair punishment put against 2D? Disney's going to need to do more than just this going forward if they really want to prove that the studio is going to be this unbiased with its animated productions. A lot more.

This is meant to be a centennial event piece. I would have made it feature length (60 - 90 minutes) and had it feature the cartoons interacting with the workers at Disney, in particular, the now scant number of people who knew Walt and worked with him personally, to name a few… - Dick Van Dyke - Don Bluth - Julie Andrews - Hayley Mills - Burny Mattinson (he cameos in the short, though he died early this year) - Floyd Norman - Clint Howard - Bruce Reitherman - Richard M. Sherman - Glynis Johns (who celebrated her 100th Birthday mere days before the company itself) - Karen Dotrice - The surviving original members of _The Mickey Mouse Club_ My mind’s eye sees the newer stars (e.g. Elsa, Ralph, Aladdin, etc.) having a meet and greet with the veteran Disney workers regaling them with tales of their time in the golden days of the studio, their old camaraderies and their friendship with Walt. Basically make it a digestible history documentary, like what _The Muppets_ did for Jim Henson when he died. I picture Richard and Julie performing _Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag)_ (Walt’s favourite song) for them. Also, maybe have Mickey and the rest of the original crew (Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, even Pete) get emotional, like “We’ve never stopped missing him”. I don’t know, in these days when they spend hundreds of millions (each) on flops that no one likes, spending a fifth of that cost expressing reverence for their history, I believe, would have gone a long way. But that’s just me…

In an odd way, the short is almost an allegory for Disney itself; Mickey wants to celebrate with everyone, the opportunity is destroyed, everyone is discouraged until they remembered why they are all there to begin with, they come together to do more than a celebration and give us something to just awe at. Disney as of now is in that awkward moment in which they want to make something great and enduring but due to the powers they be they fumble just like Goofy fumbled with his camera. But I think deep down, even the most cynic of us, still see value and worth in the Disney name, not the BRAND, but THE NAME. The short also reminds us that despite all the uphill battles the studio has faced, they managed to exist for ten decades and create stories that remain relevant to this day. The final shot with all the characters together truly represent each era and how Disney grew and evolved since. People often forget that Disney never really had a smooth journey, just think of what they faced: - Two world wars, one that forced them to essentially work for the US Government promoting the efforts while making efforts on the side - An animator's strike - Fantasia being Walt's biggest failure that he never recovered from - The great depression - Walt going from animation to live action to television to theme parks - Walt and Roy, the men that founded the studio, dying and making everyone struggle to try and keep everything afloat amidst a business takeover that nearly had the company be sold off two times - A rennaisance that saw tremendous success cut short that CEOs that clashed over egos and losing one of the men that held everything together - A revolution in computer animation that saw allies in Pixar and rivals in Dreamworks that made 2D animation irrelevant - A sudden change in the guard that both marked a new era in every facet of the company while also making non-Disney IP purchases that felt almost monopolistic - A pandemic that altered all of their game plans - A change of CEO so bad they are still recovering from it while the current CEO is struggling to find equal footing with the strikes And yet, despite all of that, we can't be fully cynical at Disney because there is a reason we got here to begin with and this shorts splendidly showcased that; we love their stories, artistry, music, and timeless characters that tug at the heart and represent the best of who we can be. So if Disney managed to celebrate their Centennial despite all of what is going on, we can all go on with the show and hope for the best.

This is what I always wanted from a Disney anniversary where different mediums and techniques directly interacts with each other to celebrate both new and old. I really wish Wish could do the same with being a hybrid Roger Rabbit-styled movie rather than just typical 3D with cheap cell-shaded filter. Maybe have a fantasy story where different dimensions conflicts with each other. The closest we got before this special was that Chip n Dale movie but they also just use cheap cell-shaded 3D similar to the recent Tom and Jerry movie with a bunch of outdated trendy cringe references. I think Wish was trying to awkwardly blend 3D and 2D together as a whole technical and artistic style which just end up very generic.

This short could've been at least fifteen minutes to show more characters that deserve their lime light. Even so, this was a really nice tribute. How I miss the days when Disney was synonymous with hand drawn animation and how I miss the days when Disney ventured into dark territory

And now, this short is included on the Blu-Ray/DVD of “Wish” since it came out recently as part of a bonus feature. I hope “Wish” is going to do well on physical media rather than seeing in a theater since November.

As good as it is to see 2D-animation from them again in this short, I wish Roger Rabbit and Jessica Rabbit had been included. Even if it wasn't a full Disney film, it kinda feels like the new people behind Disney just want to forget about that amazing movie and just want nothing to do with it for some reason, like it's "outdated" or something.

I looked up any possible reason why Roger wasn't included, and it might be due to being half owned by Steven Spielberg and them having disagreements throughout the 1990s on what to do with the character. So yeah, it's a legal issue. Spielberg is on better terms with Disney now despite the sensitive subject.

I think they weren't included because it's not a Walt Disney Animation Studios film

There just including the disney studio animation characters. So characters like Roger rabbit, pixar characters or animated characters from colabs and stuff like the nightmare before Christmas don't count.

I plan on waiting until Wish comes out before seeing this short (it plays before that movie) but from what I'm hearing this is an amazing tribute to their past hundred years! I'm looking forward to it! EDIT: I cracked and ended up watching it on Disney Plus, I of course loved it.

I’m going to have to watch all the Disney Animated Canon movies starting from Snow White all the way to Wish (alongside with the shorts of course) and THEN watch the short, just to see how far Disney has come. Also, I would like to see Disney do more of that kind of stuff in the future.

It was a great short though in retrospect, I feel the real reason I ended up crying was because I missed the old Disney. I missed the charm of the 2d, I missed what it used to be. For a few moments, I wasn't bitter and sad about Disney. For a few moments, I remembered why I grew up wanting to be an animator.

This short film is just another reason why there can’t be a quality Kingdom Hearts film. It’d be nigh impossible to fit each individual world along with the original story in the span of 2 hours For now we can appreciate this short exists since unlike any Kingdom Hearts film or tv series we can actually see the different Disney characters interacting with each other

Y'know what would've made this short even better in my opinion? It's if they got Glynis Jones (Mrs. Banks from Mary Poppins) to be in it with Burny Mattinson because she is probably the oldest Disney Legend alive, she has been around days before The Walt Disney Company existed, and she recently turned 100 years old this year for Disney's 100th anniversary. Wow.

This was not only every huge Disney dream to see but it made me emotional 🥹. It felt like such a long time where Disney actually showed their greatest achievements in animation rather than easing them through unwanted remakes. This whole set up of the characters even included Underrated (and personal favourites) Disney Films like Chicken Little, Atlantis, Home on the Range Treasure Planet or even the upcoming Wish. This is what Disney is all about with Mickey and the Gang and all Disney Animated Characters through the years, displaying all the talent of the amazing artists, animators, actors and writers who brought them to life ❤❤❤❤❤

I agree I wish they would focus more on animation than just trying to make a live action reboot of everything. Although some of the live action stuff are some good ideas, I would prefer them create new ideas that everyone is looking forward too. Hopefully there are some considerable changes going forward.

I am holding out that this short film is a sign for Disney making new 2D movies again (coexisting with cgi, the new hybrid 2.5D and all other animation styles together! What they should’ve been doing from the start!)

Honestly, I loved this! I was born in 1992 and grew up with Disney so seeing all these characters together even before I was born was amazing. It also kinda brought me back to how Disney was too. Plus this shows they can still make 2D animation and IMO they should bring that back when it comes to the movies.

I thought this short was very sweet and beautiful. And hearing the famous characters go into "Wish Upon a Star" did make me a bit misty eyed. Also, I feel the biggest geek out for me was seeing the Black Cauldron characters! And they were pretty front and center too, which I found interesting given that films history😅.
