San Pedro Sula, Honduras, had the highest homicide rate on earth from 2011-14. For years, the media called the city "the murder capital of the world." It was among the last places people would consider as a tourist destination. Today, the crime rate in San Pedro Sula is much lower.
Is it now safe enough for tourists to walk its streets? What are the coffee shops there like? What are the restaurants, parks, ice cream shops, markets, and bars like? How much do things cost? Will the city recover from the stained image of its past? I travel into the city to find out.
