Jake teaches Charlotte how to make a pizza, but he gets flustered and drops all his supplies when Megan reappears. Jake tries to keep Charlotte from noticing Megan’s presence, but Megan doesn’t make it easy. Jake and Megan go outside, and Jake reminds Megan she agreed to stay in the attic. Megan says its too cold and there are spiders up there. Megan promises to be careful and quiet if he’ll let her stay. Tina and Cord tell Viki about what happened with Johnny. Troy asks Viki if she can answer a few questions and, over Clint’s objections, Viki agrees. Tina and Cord agree to give them some privacy for the interview, but once they are out in the foyer, Tina doubles over in pain and Cord says he’ll take her to the hospital. Unaware of Tina’s medical issue, Viki recounts for Troy everything she remembers. She recalls wheeling her chair to the base of the stairs to see Johnny on his way up and not knowing what to do. She says she tried to stand and get out of the chair but her legs wouldn’t go. After that she says she blacked out; she has no recollection of coming back into the library. The next thing she remembers is waking up on the floor of the library, with no idea how she got there without her chair. When Troy wonders how she couldn’t take two steps to follow Johnny but somehow made it all the way into the library, Viki remembers her battle with Niki, but she conceals the memory from Troy and Clint. She says someone must have found ehr unconscious in the foyer, dragged her into the library, and then gone upstairs and shot Johnny. Troy thinks it’s plausible that someone moved her just to get her out of the way. After Troy leaves, Clint wants to take Viki up to bed, but Viki says she needs to find something out first. She tells Clint to call Sheila and ask her to come over. Clint agrees but asks why the urgency. Viki says she needs to find out if it’s possible for her to have gone up the stairs on her own. Julia asks whether Niki would have been able to climb the stairs, since she shares the same stroke-weakened body as Viki. Gabrielle says it was clearly Viki or Niki who shot Johnny-clearly in self defense-so she must have gotten up there somehow. Gabrielle wonders what she should do with the tape, but Julia says there’s no dilemma there: they have to telephone the police. Gabrielle hangs up the phone and tells her they’re not going to the police. Gabrielle thinks she can find someone to erase her voice from the tape, after which she can use it as leverage against the Buchanans or to get a big payday from Carlo Hesser. Max returns home before Julia can tell Gabrielle what she thinks of her daughter’s latest criminal activities. After the three of them discuss the shooting, Max goes to make coffee and Julia says she’s headed home. On her way out she tells Gabrielle to do whatever she needs to do to get her voice off that tape, but then she’d better get it to the police.
Sheila tells her leg muscles are strong and she’s been great at physical therapy. Viki asks why she couldn’t climb the stairs then, and Sheila says stroke victims need to overcome both physical and psychological obstacles to walk again. Viki asks if she had been psychologically prepared, could she have walked up the stairs and Sheila says it is possible. Charlotte says she’s cold and suggests they pull down the Murphy bed and eat the pizza under the covers. Megan watches with undisguised disdain as Jake helps Charlotte eat her dinner. Later, Megan huddles by the fire while Charlotte sleeps under the covers on the bed and Jake sleeps on top of the blankets. He gets up and goes to Megan kissing her and wrapping her in a blanket and his embrace. At the hospital Larry puts Tina in a room and orders some tests. While she waits, Tina asks Cord if he hoped the baby wouldn’t survive these complications. Cord is offended that she would think that about him. Cord says he can’t make any promises about where they go from here, but he says he will see her through this pregnancy. After Cord leaves to check in on things back at Llanfair, Tina has an unexpected visitor: Carlo Hesser. He says he had to come to the hospital to identify his murdered son. Carlo says he doesn’t blame Tina for Johnny’s death (we’ll see how long that lasts). He says his only hope for the future is his grandchild, whom she is carrying. He promises he won’t abandon her or her baby, the newest Hesser. Max admits to Gabrielle that he has started to care about the Buchanan family-Viki and Cord, though, not Asa. She says his family is going to need him very much. Troy updates Viki and Clint on the investigation so far. The murder weapon, he says, was unregistered and all the prints had been wiped clean. All prints had been wiped from the phone and tape recorder as well, except for one partial print on the recorder. Troy hopes that partial print will lead them to Johnny Dee’s killer.
