It's said to be a temporary place for Gods or spirits to stay at a festival. I'm not very sure but I checked on the Wikipedia. 😄

The purpose is not to have fun, but to express gratitude to the gods and pray for a bountiful harvest.

There are idiots who ride portable shrines, but this is an act that should never be done. The portable shrine is a place where the god is enshrined. The place is a sacred place and people are not allowed to enter. This act is shameful.

It’s ok, in Japanese culture, kids before they turn 8 yo are kami children. Essentially like angels, not fully earthly beings yet.七歳までは神のうち
