It's a Landau pedal. Line 6 are based in California, and looking at what they include effects-wise, they're definitely Landau-heads. If you haven't heard it yet, go listen to tales from the bulge

I had an SD9M for a while, the reissue with the higher gain mod built in. It was a great sound through the Jazz Chorus. Only got rid of it because I totally converted away from pedals to a modeler setup. Wish my modeler had an SD9 model in it.

I've had an SD9 for many years. I took it off my board a couple years ago. What it does it does well. The HX is pretty good. A little fizzy but you can EQ that out.

I have the Maxon SD-9. It's been modded by AnalogMan. I find that it sings into an overdriven amp or another drive pedal. I had it on my board for a bit, but I just wasn't getting along with it. I think it might even find it's way to Reverb.

I also had a Maxon SD-9 (not modded). I found the distortion sound a little too fizzy, and it didn’t cut thru a band mix very well, so I sold it. In retrospect, I think I needed to turn down the tone knob and crank up the volume knob! Besides Henderson and Landau, I think Oz Noy is a fan of this pedal.

Yeh so the manual says that clockwise is the starting point for the tone knob, but it's really quite bright - maybe 2.5 might be a better starting point?

An SD-9 is sort of like a TS-9 with more hair, they have a thicker, more saturated distortion sound which is great for leads or thick rhythm.

@@jamesearl389 not exactly, with overdrives sometimes you never want a drill or a hammer. Music tools are completely taste specific and just because one functions one way or another doesn’t mean i think it sounds good. For my personal use of overdrive id take a sonic drive over a tube screamer any day. Tubescreamers kill the attack of the string which always drove me nuts. Not for me, I like dynamics with overdrive.
