The cleverness of this scene is Priest had already figure a way out. But he asked Eddie and did not reveal his game. He was suspicious of Eddie and didn't trust him 100%. Solid script.

This scene was one of the most critical scenes in the entire movie... Superfly wasn't a movie about the black people in the hood, the dope game or being oppressed and exploited in the hustle by the powers that be, but it was a movie about black people getting out of the hood, the dope game so they could break away from being oppressed and exploited through the hustle by the powers that be... Knowing your self-worth as a Man, as a people moving collectively, the money represented economic empowerment... Priest found out that as woke as he had become, not everyone wanted to wake up... Remember the scene where he sat down with the "righteous brothers" who told him he needed to pay his dues? They weren't woke, but looking for a handout, talking loud but not making moves... Kinda like a lot of "woke" folks today... Times have not changed... We as a people still need to "get out" of the lifestyle where our best hope at a good life is hoping "the system" aka "He" lets us live long enough to be an old MF before it kills us...

Superfly for whatever reason people think glorified the hood. Nobody in this movie was happy living the hustle life. Those that were still in it did not do it because they loved it, they did it because either that is all the could do or someone had something on them that they could not get out. Eddie accepted the hustle life because that is all he could do. Most of the people wanted out but they knew they would die trying to get out. Some were out but made too many enemies so even if they were out they would always have to look over their shoulder. Superfly gave an account of what the hustle game was about and it wasn't the type of thing you wanted to do as a career. Unfortunately a lot of kats totally missed the point, got caught up and lost their lives or people close to them lost their lives.

Underrated movie. In spite of its negative image of blacks in terms of its portrayal of blacks being hustlers, dope dealers, and drug addicts, pimps and prostitutes Super Fly has a powerful positive message about the fatal consequences that people may face when dealing in drugs and taking drugs. For this reason Superfly should not be discredited and criticized as just a movie which stereotyped blacks as low life individuals. Priest was a main character who was intelligent enough to not take the risk of dealing drugs and getting killed. So the moral lesson of Superfly is that there is a better way of life for all of us who choose to take the right path. Therefore, Superfly promotes a powerful message that your decision in life can result in life or death. A must see movie!!!! Superfly is a very entertaining movie, but its more to it than just street life, fancy cars, and cloths.

We have a tendency to think like that because our History with white people has been so dismal and we’ve been manipulated by them a great deal. It's always a tough scene to watch. The moment of truth when 2 business partners' freindship is tested. Priest has pondered over this for awhile, drew his line in the sand, has reached his limit and is staying true to himself. Eddie is torn. However he will not pass beyond the line into the "unknown". He is a puppet and he knows it. But it gives him a sense of security. You know he greatly admires Priest for having the guts to walk away from that lifestyle. But too soon for him.

African-American men have been watching this film (and Scarface) for decades, trying to attempt to having this fantasizes "street success". It's gotten them nowhere but overcrowding prisons and being convicted drug dealers and pimps. The point of the movie was never intended for people to literally attempt at trying to be Youngblood Priest. However, movies like this have been successful at giving current-day rappers fictitious images to rap about in their songs and personalities to emulate. Unfortunately, the cycle continues and their fans can't understand fiction vs. reality and these attempts at street success have been continued failures.

One of my favorite mpvies, indeed. I was a child when the movie was released. I've been a huge Ron O'Neal fan since then. He was actually a classically trained, Shakespearean actor, coach, and Obie Award winner. Unfortunately, he was typecast due to delivering such a dynamic role in "Super-Fly". Actually, this era of time has never been forgotten. It is very nostalgic, and has influenced culture, clothing and music to this day. Even the " Super-Fly" movie, though, released before the "Blaxploitation" era, heavily influenced the genre, and style of that period. Real life street player, and hustlers tried to emulate Youngblood Priest's long, straight, pressed hairstyle. People remember fondly, and reenact the early 70s style, and feel through throwback costume parties, and dances. Unfortunately, for black filmmakers, the genre experienced heavy scrutiny from many within the black community, so the genre never really evolved to its full potential. Latter day film producers Quentin Tarantino recreated the feel of 70s black loot at on in movie like Jackie Brown. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

Some are missing the bigger picture when a man has seen a glimpse of the future (scatterman) killed after he was used up still had long bread stashed somewhere but he dead now all that hustling for what to still die like a dope fiend in the street. Either get out an chase your dream or stay in a live a nightmare.

This is a person here, who doesn't understand the concept of the whole movie. This movie is ahead of it time! What Robert Simmons is saying is absolutely correct. What y'all don't understand, even today, show how we fall into the TRAP. It all looks good on the outside but means absolutely real. It's not real fortune. It's a deadly trap to believe you're on top of things in this world until you are dead! Life means it all! Eddie soul has BEEN sold to the devil.

Eddie's lines apply to this very day. Apply those words to those who said and did nothing during the blitz on Black existence and resistance when Trayvonn, Tamir, Cosby, Kaepernick, Mo'Nique and many many others were being disrespected and dragged in the media. This mindset goes way back to the plantations and persists. Some must be left behind, others must be dealt with.

Cold logic there! That was always the best scene, I doubt they could have made this movie any better than if they had ten times more than the $300 thouasand they say it cost to make the movie. It grossed, $30 million, but so did Curtis Mayfield's soundtrack to Superfly and truthfully I couldn't wait to get in the theater to see how the movie lined up with the music. The combination became a perfect storm.....

This movie is tied for my all time favorite( along with Cooley High). But the message was missed by most when it firsr came out.I understand Eddies thought process as narrow as it was Priest was thinking long term and didnt wanna be controlled by " The Man" like Scatter was...because he would have to watch his back everyday of his life.He wanted more control of his life and was using this once in a lifetime opportunity to get out on HIS terms, while having leverage against the man..." if one hair on this pretty head of mine....." " All the Reardons die".( Another cold scene)

About the film Superfly and Canada Lee's Son Scene (Moment) "Parting Company." Only some people will pick up on this film's more profound meanings. The hunger for positive images, even if harmful, the superficial shine of the clothes, the women, the dress, and the "swag" will be the focus of attention. This hunger factor that black people have to see any positive aspects of themselves is so that they have no time to reflect on any extraordinarily significant meaning behind the words. I often wonder why black people speak so loudly. Now I know. We're in a hurry while everyone is taking their sweet time. We're always about to run out of time.

When I was a kid back in the 60's and 70's, this movie like Cornbread Earl and Me and so many others, allowed us to see ourselves and our plight and predicament in a thousand different ways. But good or bad, we saw ourselves on that silver screen and IT MEANT SOMETHING TO US. These were not just movies. WE COULD IDENTIFY with the mess we saw happening in these flicks...because it was happening to ALL of us.
