This seriously is one of the coolest grooves ever created, and there’s a certain satisfaction you find in playing it. Maybe it’s the loose, “swung” nature of the groove. Maybe it’s the snare ghosting that adds another dimension of “feel.” Whatever the case, this is an extremely musical, challenging, but super rewarding groove to learn. Today we break down a bare-bones half time shuffle. This isn’t Rosanna, nor is it Purdie or Fool in the Rain. This is a fundamental version of the halftime shuffle that you can use to then learn the songs of your choice. Download the free PDF that accompanies this lesson below, and follow along! Practice the 5 steps, and do this with a metronome. Be patient, and take it slow. You have to keep this kind of groove relaxed. Also, make sure you have fun doing it. I think it’s one of the funnest “feels” to play.
