As optometrists, we select the power for near vision glasses aka "reading glasses" based mainly on patient age . Other factors include (but not limited to) : distance vision power, cataract surgery, diabetes ... etc. To get an accurate prescription it is better to see an optometrist (especially if your insurance will cover the costs), but don't worry, your eye will not be damaged if you do't wear the correct prescription glasses. Although, you may feel discomfort or not being able to see with the glasses at your desired distance. Love your reviews. :)
@AKayfabe
5 жыл бұрын
Ok so you chose depends on age, what would you choose for a very young person who may just happen to have bad eyes, or say a person who is only 40. Rather than a person who is 60 or 80?
@xwzusv
5 жыл бұрын
@@AKayfabe first, you have to understand that with normal people, starting from age 40, near vision start to degrade. Assuming your distance vision correction = exactly zero in both eyes (exact normal distance vision) & assuming you have normal natural lens inside your eye you can use near vision glasses for ages 40 to 44 (+1.00) ages 45 to 49 (+1.50) ages 50 to 54 (+2.00) ages 55 and above (+2.50)
@rfunk727

@@xwzusv So true, Hit me at 40 now at 66 yrs old and using +2.50
@buggsy5
5 жыл бұрын
@@xwzusv That is for a person, as you notice, with normal 20/20 distance vision. For a person that is near-sighted, those diopter adjustments can be radically different. For example, my distance vision used to be about 20/200, with my close vision 20/20 (normal reading distance perfectly clear). My close vision is now clear only at a distance of about 24 inches, so I need about a 1.5 diopter correction for reading.

Even on the surface, the "automatically adjusts" claim seems like complete nonsense.
@aszi77
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but they don't say that. They say the lens has varying focus over its surface and you are supposed to find and look through the spot that has the right focus for you. "The technology designs each lens with a range of corrections from .5 to 2.5. Your eye automatically looks through the lens and finds the right spot where the correction is right for you, so you can focus and read clearly."
@buggsy5
5 жыл бұрын
@@aszi77 That is certainly how they supposedly work - although the optician test showing a correction of +2.5 over the complete lens would mean either the maker is lying or it was a defective pair. Graduated focus lenses are nothing new - I have used them for decades. It does take a while to get the eyes/brain trained to automatically select the proper areas of the lenses for different distances. Some people can never manage to adjust, so they are not for everyone. And, unless the correction needed is about the same for both eyes, then you may only be able to get one eye to focus at a time. That does not happen with prescription graduated focus lenses, as the two lenses are ground to whatever correction range is necessary for binocular focus.
5 жыл бұрын
Why would be testing 2.5's if you use 1.5's? I'm confused
@douglaswebster2069
4 жыл бұрын
@Ranzy Campbell That is true for some glasses, but not these. As tested, these are 2.5 across the lens and the advertiser is simply guilty of false advertising. Moreover, their claim of "Flex Focus Optic science" is hogwash. There is no such "science".

What you needed to do is have people with various reading glasses strength and then have them try the One Power Readers to see if they would work for them. An aspherical lens can “automatically adjust” kind of anyway. It will remove spherical aberrations, which is the fuzzy blurry bit just outside your direct focus with standard reading glasses. This should (if they are aspheric lenses) remove that fuzzy bit so an entire page will look clear and you can read everything without having to move your eyes. So it “automatically” adjusts your main focus and peripheral vision. But it can’t change its base curve power. Which appears to be a +2.5.

Years ago, my vision was 20/15, and I could see well at long range and up close. Old age has made it difficult to read and also since I make balsa wood models for my model railroad and also do electronic repair work. I had to get bifocals to read. Without my glasses anything closer than my arm's length becomes fuzzy. To see things up close that I'm working on I did get a 2.75 reading glasses from a Marcs store for 99 cents. They had a price tag of $9.99 but Marcs marked them down to a little over a dollar counting sales tax. Not bad for the money. They magnify well and stay in focus from 3 inches out to about 18 inches. The top of my bifocals are not prescription lens just regular shatter resistant plastic, and the bottom part, don't magnify at all but do keep anything in focus from 3 inches out to around 18 inches. I won't spend more for reading glasses as I can get them for a dollar at Marcs or any other dollar store like Family Dollar, Dollar General or at a Dollar Tree.
