But the price is huge Bishop Barron! Yes it s pleasurable to leave safe spaces but the collateral suffering needs bravery. Needs grace of God, of course. At the end of the day we are not the heros we pretend to be all the day, we are but poor humans needing some rest to restart the next day fulfilling our responsibilities. Thank you for this good homily. You are God' s gift to all of us seeking to hear God's word on net. Take care Plz.

I lived much of my 70-plus years in a safe space, hardened in a shell of conformity to the catholic « program »: the rules handed out to me from Sunday sermons and menacing « shoulds ». I gradually came to this place of feeling owed to out of anger of pleasures lost from conformity to so many « shoulds and must nots ». My breaking open came from a harsh being broken open; and it hurt. Only then, I got Christ crucified, Christ broken open, for me, for us. Levis Shalom

My comment here will most likely bring criticism, but I'm going to get out of my "safe space" and present it. This is why I believe no one should be denied receiving the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. Who better to transform our sinners hearts, to write a New Covenant in our hearts, than the power of Jesus Christ through the Eucharist? My prayer of protection for you, Bishop Barron, always.

So powerful and so true. I like how you address the notion of “Safe spaces” in this homily. If Bishop Robert Barron says to us “now listen” in the midst of making a point, don’t you gather closer, pay more attention and wait to hear what he says? Just the very style of his “delivery” gathers us in and moves us to attentiveness without dramatic arm gestures or raising his voice in a theatrical manner. Today, and throughout the week, I will listen more, be attuned to what I hear and then likely even remember this homily when I do so.

When we were locked out of our churches I did not see any Catholic church or Bishop or the Pope say “This is not right” we need to be open and defiantly open. I saw no St Camillius de Lillus or St Damien of Molokai ministering to their ill, some of our nursing home people still have not received communion. No one called us to take up our rosary to keep the armada from our shores. This sounds nice but we need to walk the walk.
