Ya there was a level of genuine meaning and philosophy behind lyrics that just outclasses todays music so much. This isn’t supposed to be a “this generations music sucks” thing because there is some amazing music, but the content of the lyrics seems to have changed A LOT when it comes to what’s popular. I feel lucky I got to listen to the stuff growing up, it made me consider a lot about life and living when I was still young.

Heard this song in September 2013 in a psych ward. I remember the walls dawning in on me and how incredibly broken I felt. It’s a ongoing battle but there’s always hope, there’s always hope...I pray everyone recovers from any type of mental illness, abuse and addiction..I’ve been through all three and i wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. To everyone out there who is having trouble in their life, no matter what your problems are, I just want to say that you are beautiful and have as much right to be here as the trees and grass. It's amazing how much a song can affect you. I remember listening to this song with one of my closest friends when we were younger (probably about 9 or 10 years ago) on his MP3 player and jamming out to it. We did this almost every time we saw each other, which was pretty frequently since he lived close by. Although, some time after, I was told that he had died from cancer, and even though I didn't know a lot about the gravity of that subject at the time, I just knew that we would never be able to listen to this song together or see each other ever again. That's why I always like revisiting this song to remind me of all the good times we had together and all of the memories we shared, even though I still get really emotional over it. Rest in peace Chase...

who are you to judge this 🙄 i also don't like todays charts that much, but i would never dare to deney theire hard work. If it's so easy to write this kind of music, go ahead. lets see how long it will take you, to even produce a full song. There is a reason why such music as this sond isn't in the charts anymore, and other music is. A mayority of people love to listen to this stuff. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Every song has its own purpose. If its just for having a good time, and having fun while listening to it, thant thats it.

I listen to this song once every day. When I do I don't song along, I just lay down and listen, not a word comes out of my mouth, I just listen and think. While I do I look at something that means something in my life, or at least used to mean something. This song makes me think, not just think about what I'm going to do or say, but what I have done and what I need to do to make things right. If something happens in life, don't sit there and cry about it, stand up and move. Don't think that your purpose in life is to just fill a space in the world, even if it is, that space must be important to have you there. Even if you feel like your drowning, or falling, or stuck; push yourself out of the water, grow wings and fly, or break off the things that are keeping you still. Nothing is made to last, no one is made to last. Everything is meant to fall apart, everyone is meant to leave. Some thoughts might be unspoken, some events might never be told of. No one can stop these things from happening, but I can tell you this: The people who leave may not come back, but there will be new people to come, you just have to have open arms. The things that break you might not be able to put back together, but you can build a new one. Just be there for it to happen. If you feel like you have nothing to live for, I'll say this: More people care about you than you know. If you're sure that you have absolutely not a thing to live for, live for me. I want you to have the best life you could ever have, 'cause if you have a good life, then you could inspire others to have one too. Don't you want others to have a good life? Just think, listen, and breathe. From A Person Who Cares About You

***** My opinion on this song being their best won't change unless they release a song that I like more (which I doubt will happen because I love it too much). That doesn't automatically mean that I haven't changed in 7 years.

You know for the longest time I always thought this was a love song, I listened to it and it was a great song but after living life and having set back after setback I actually listened to it and it speaks to me in ways I never thought are possible. It’s a song about change about growing and moving past ones fears despite the time it takes to progress and the fear of failure looming around one shouldn’t let fear hinder you from living a life of possibility of becoming the best version of yourself at least that’s what I got out of it and that message is beautiful.

For all of you folk that are depressed, I have the same issue, if it's a relationship you seek, well you need to stop thinking about it, get through school get a good job and do what you need to do, because the right person will come to you... If it's bullying, hell, they are also depressed so they need a way to get out of the world they are in now, so please guys, stay strong, if not for your family, or for your friends, for me, I am also depressed and I want you all to feel better, and I hope you want me to feel better too :) But anyways, my girlfriend may not love me anymore, but I still love her so much, we got into a fight last night and guess what, we got through it but something seems amiss... I don't know, but anyways, I hope to marry her one day, she fixes my depression. Thanks for reading guys! Love you all :)

Depression is in large part societal. The surroundings you're subjected to alter your interpretations of your reality (including self-perception). If you live surrounded by beautiful people, your expectations will be unreasonable. When you see those beautiful people receiving love and attention, it will only make you feel more worthless about yourself if you are not in fact beautiful (even if you do not believe you are beautiful). Unfortunately, there's not much of a gradient when it comes to meeting the expectations of society, and the gradient that does exist is the equivalent of choosing between Burger King or Taco Bell.. (it's all the same shit)... Point is: Either you're in or you're out, either you match the profile societal values espouse or you're something else... something "strange". It sucks because the media tries to shove values down our throat every second it can. It tells us who's valuable, who's loved, who's talented, etc., we need to realize that the media is a powerful tool and it shapes minds and hearts. It brings lives together and it tears lives apart. Socrates mentions this through Plato, nearly 2,500 years ago and we have come full circle... The truth never dies, depression can take your mind and your heart, it can even briefly take your sanity, but it cannot take away the comprehensive nature of your life and the experience that such a life entails. You are unique and you are wonderful!

I ran into my friend's room the other day, and as she is a _huuuge_ fan of one direction, and she'd been trying to get me to convert for ages, I shouted, "HEY I LIKE THAT BAND THAT BEGINS WITH ONE NOW. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THEIR MUSIC!" her reaction: "OMG really?? Yes another Directioner!" Me: "LOL NO it's called OneRepublic!" I love their music! Maybe I put too many caps... but I think this music is better than any of that factory-made crap they call music nowadays.
