Shadows, variety of light, negative space, softness in colors, selected focus, temperature, exposure, contrasts, saturation, tint, sharpness, definition, highlights and more are terms used in photography.
Took a drive to downtown San Diego yesterday to have a home cooked dinner with my Romanian friends around the dinner table.
I stopped by the famous rose garden of Balboa Park. My mother loved roses. I think of when I see them. This particular time of year, the roses are in bloom. The selections were wonderful and the scents have stayed with me even till this morning.
I brought my Canon 5D Mark III and my 100mm lens designed for up close Macro shots. I should have brought my tripod to isolate the focus a bit better, but the wind kept shifting the rose blooms. Using my hand to stabilize the flower, it was a bit of a chore to get those isolated shots.
These photos aren't intended to be "flower photos" but more a reflection of selective focus with color and lighting. My famous photographer buddy Chris Buck once told me when I asked him for his opinion of my photography said "don't send me photos of flowers". I got what he meant as I attempted to bring some draw to subject matter vs mere superimposing an image from eye to camera.
Food for thought for today.
You have to look at these photographs as if you will be painting them on canvas. That is the intent of the up close photographs of Not Just Flowers
Wishing you all well. May your days be filled with color and light.
