I don’t know why others cook the wax in crockpots and other methods. I’ve been doing a similar method to yours and get perfect wax every time. Nice video!

Nice work. I've watched several videos and yours looks the easiest, cleanest and cheapest (provided you already own an oven). I really like how everyone works with what they have.

Carmen Brown thanks for watching. And, I agree, much simpler. Only thing will do different is put cardboard or something on the floor. As hard as I try, wax drips on the floor and have to scrap it up.

Wow, great work! So if I understand correctly, you started with the honeycomb and placed it on top of the paper towels - or - Did you melt the slum gum first and then place it on top of the paper towel?

Hey, I tried this last night. I didn't have a paper towel, so I used cheese cloth......too big of holes in cheese cloth. It worked well, but there is still a small amount of crud on the bottom. Thanks again for the tip!

Looks like a good simple method - but that temperature is Fahrenheit! If you did it at 200 Centigrade it would probably catch fire! Use 90 degrees Centigrade. I would not be allowed to use our oven for this - smells and risk of spilled wax which is difficult to remove.
@AmerAmyMN

Thanks for letting me know 90 C is the conversion. The smell is delightful and smells like bees wax. I totally agree about dripped wax everywhere but if you are deciplined and leave it alone the whole time and until it is cooled, You can avoid the mess. I find this hard to do. Lol Thanks for watching.

So many videos do not show the underside of these beautifully rendered wax blocks (of varying shapes and sizes) - the underside is where very small particulates and impurities lie - too bad you did not show the underside - the topside is one of the nicest I have ever viewed

Hey thanks for watching. The beauty of this method is that all the crap stays on top of the paper towels. The bottom of the wax is as clean as the top. I should have shown that.

This method would work as well as a solar heater method but you have to have hot enough weather to melt so I really like the oven option for working with wax in winter time.

How much water did you put in the pan? Did you put it in the pan before melting the raw wax or after?
@AmerAmyMN
7 жыл бұрын
I put the water in the pan first, and filled it about half way. But you need to gauge how much wax you can add before it overflows. You can add the wax a little bit at a time. I put a tray underneath to catch any drips or spills. Its way easier to clean the tray than to try and get wax out of your oven. Thanks for watching. Amy

Barbara Rickman as long as you can keep the cloth above the water, it should work, it will absorb the wax before dripping but if it's all you have......give it try. let me know if it works!

Well, I did it. I used some clean dry close mesh cheese cloth and paper napkins as that was all I had to work with. I only had 3 hands full of raw wax just to try. It did work, although with some loss of wax as it wicked thru the cotton cheese cloth. The small amount of wax I did get was beautiful! The paper napkins were full of all of the junk that was in the wax. I think the metal screening is much better as it will not wick away and of the liquid wax. I was quite taken with the wax coated cotton cheese cloth. I will see what it could be used for. I had it in my mind to try and bind my fresh dry cheese in it for storage purposes.

That's weird because water and cold wax don't mix. The wax should harden on top as it cools. I don't know what happened.

2:26 can you eat it?
@AmerAmyMN
6 жыл бұрын
MrBoodabelly I put it in lip balm that I make, so I would consider it safe to consume in small, reasonable amounts. the wax needs to get to a high temp to melt-clean so that must "pasteurize" it to some degree. You would also heat to remelt it to use. I'm no expert so don't take my word for it. Thanks for watching.

Do you recall the wax Halloween teeth they used to make? They were bees wax. It won't hurt ya, but I don't think you can really "eat it". You could if you wanted to I suppose.....
