Save yourself, don't do it! 😂 As for the rest of us, we've fallen too far down the rabbit hole.

What book should I read?

I always like to recommend “Building Construction Illustrated” by Francis D.K. because it basically teaches you about every single component that make up a building and gives you a bit of information on them. It's an easy book to understand, especially if you read a page per day as I suggest. If you want me to recommend another book, let me know what you're into regarding architecture and I'll check my collection to see if I have anything I could point you to.

The one that I always recommend is “Building Construction Illustrated” by Francis D.K. Have you read that one? If so let me know what interests you about architecture and I'll recommend another one!

As a general rule of thumb you should own “Building Construction Illustrated” by Francis D.K. Ching. A lot of people sleep on this book because it’s recommended at school. It’s like the architecture bible. It’s great for detailing your projects and understanding how projects are put together. If you had something else in mind for a recommendation, let me know and I’ll go through my books and recommend another one!

@Moochers any suggestions for someone who spent most their life in construction and is already fairly familiar with materials and components? I'm really interested in the psychology of design if that helps.

@@TheFuelInjected That's awesome. You would be an asset to architecture firms since you are so versed in "means and methods". In your case I would recommend "Problem Seeking An Architectural Programming Primer". This is not design psychology in that sense of how design makes you feel, it's more of a how-to on how to program. This book covers the steps on how to take the needs and wants of client and start to shape them into a design that will suit them. It's a very realistic approach. Think almost like the business of design if you will. If you want something more conceptual "Architecture Form, Space, And Order" also by Ching is really good. Walks you through the history of architecture breaking down design concepts. Lots of great information in that book.

@@TheFuelInjected Of course! I recommend you check them out at library and see if they interest you before purchasing, although, if you want to pursue architecture and design, the Ching book is a great one to have. The former is great if you are ever interested in developing.
