The circuits that the electricians are fishing at about the 20 minute mark are probably fire and smoke detector loops. Those run on a long line of detectors since they require very little energy and you want them connected together. Since this is a retirement facility they need one in every room so you see them fishing jumps that can be as little as a few feet and others that are longer. The conduits are small since they only need to carry three conductors and a ground. Two for power and one for the signal. The other clue is that they are in the middle of the rooms and not in steel track that you see on the roof and floor. That track is for the walls where most power connections will be located. Just a guess but that’s what they look like.

The idiot using the angle grinder at about 35:00 in is using it without a wheel guard - a serious violation of OSHA regulations and common sense. Just immagine a piece of grinding wheel coming at your eye at over 150 mph. Not a good way to start your day.

Why do they weld so much on the roof structure if it's already bolted together? Or, on the other hand, why do they bolt it so much just to weld it afterwards? I guess there's a reason to use both attachment systems together, but what is that reason? EDIT: after my question I see they removed the bolted brackets, so I guess they were just there to secure alignment between the pieces for the welding process.
@constructionwatcher5381
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, those little tabs with a couple of bolts each are only to hold the pieces in place until they can be welded. If they were using permanent bolted connections there would more bolts, placed in serious brackets at the ends of the beams, not the little tabs above the beams.

Are you asking what are they building with steel on the roof? That’s probably for mechanical spaces such as water cooler tower, an emergency generator, chillers, a water tank, etc,.
@HospitalConstruction

There's going to be a parapet and roof structure over the top of the elevator shaft. Also, I presume, various mechanical items. As a "roof screen" there's going to be more of those precast panels, which will be seen in future episodes. Those things are heavy, thus require strong framework to hold.

So if they are no longer using porta-potties, what are they using?
@Bill_N_ATX
3 жыл бұрын
They probably have working facilities on the lower floors. As soon as you have those up and running you want to get rid of the expensive ports-potties. Now some places want you to continue to use them longer since construction workers can be slobs but permanent facilities are more sanitary. Well as long as you keep them clean.
@davidsilvera7436

@@Bill_N_ATX didn't think they were connected to the water and sewage lines already, but I guess if they have electricity connected, they could have the other utilities connected as well.
@HospitalConstruction
3 жыл бұрын
As noted at about minute 13 of week 39, they built temporary facilities, complete with flush toilets, down at the garage level. There are still a few porta potties in use in the upper levels, I presume so that they don't have to go all the way down to the ground level every time.
