Lexus has finally introduced a true three-row luxury crossover -- the first-ever TX -- after year of only offering the smaller RX-L crossover and the larger GX and LX SUVs.
Here's a look at its highlights:
- The TX is built on the same TNGA-K platform as the Toyota Grand Highlander, so the two share a lot of similarities.
- It comes in gas (TX 350), hybrid (TX 500h), and plug-in hybrid (TX 550+ options).
- Pricing ranges from $56,000 to $81,000
- It competes against rivals like the Audi Q7, Acura MDX, Lincoln Aviator, Cadillac XT6, Genesis GV80, and Infiniti QX60.
Interior Features
- The interior boasts high-quality materials with three color options: Peppercorn, Birch, and Black.
- It offers comfortable seating for all occupants, with options for a 60/40 split-folding bench or captain's chairs in the second row.
- The third row is easily accessible thanks to a slide assist mechanism.
- We found that adults fit comfortably in the third row, even when seated behind another adult in the second row.
- Key interior features include a 12.3-inch multi-information display, a head-up display, and a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen standard across all models; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
- There are a host of clever storage cubbies and solutions throughout the cabin, plus seven charging and connection points, along with three power outlets
- A 21-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system is optional.
Powertrains
- The TX lineup includes several powertrain options:
- We tested a TX 350, which comes with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard, while AWD is optional.
- The TX500h hybrid variant includes a similar 2.4-liter engine but with an electric motor, for a total of 366 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. It uses a six-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with AWD.
- The TX550h+ is a plug-in hybrid with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, delivering 406 horsepower. It also offers an estimated 30 mpg combined and 33 miles of all-electric range; AWD is standard on this model too.
Dimensions and Cargo
- The Lexus TX is larger than its predecessor, the RX L, with a 116.1-inch wheelbase, a length of around 203 inches, a width of 78.3 inches, and a height of 70.1 inches.
- It offers more cargo space than competitors like the Lincoln Aviator, with 20.1 cubic feet behind the third row, 57.4 cubic feet behind the second row, and 97.0 cubic feet behind the first row.
Safety and Convenience
- Standard safety features include the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which bundles pre-collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, and more.
- Every model is equipped with at least 20-inch alloy wheels, with 22-inch options available on higher trims.
Pricing
- The pricing for the 2024 Lexus TX starts at around $56,000, including destination, for a base 350 with front-wheel-drive. The loaded TX 350 that we tested was $65,000.
The TX 500h starts at around $70,000, while the top-end 550+ stickers for about $79,000.
In summary, the 2024 Lexus TX is a blend of luxury, space, and advanced technology, catering to families and individuals seeking a premium and comfortable driving experience.
