@@andersjjensen I imagine that they are not able to go much lower based on actual manufacturing cost. The die used for the a 770 is much larger than 6650 XT. At the $200 price, they are probably on the verge of losing money once you factor in distribution and retail mark ups. Hopefully, BattleMage will be good enough to justify the cost, and actually a profit margin that makes it worth doing business in the GPU market. But the 7900XTX was instantly a good buy to anyone who values raster the most. As fast in raster as the 4080, $200 cheaper and with 8GB more VRAM was generally received as a straight deal. The 7900XT, on the other hand, got itself review-day bombed because it was 90% the price for 80% the performance. But how where it's 75% the price for 80% the performance it seems to be moving.

As it stands, Arc GPUs are already nipping at Nvidia's heels in terms of productivity suite (AV1 encoding on the cheap, QuickSync being pretty close to CUDA), so if they were able to get their gaming drivers up to snuff, and maintain their price point, they could take a LOT of market share. I bought an a750, and it's had its issues, but having access to AV1 encoding for $200, for my broke ass self doing some content on the side, has been an absolute godsend. Meanwhile, production wise, AMD is off in a corner, eating glue paste... All I'm saying is, Intel GPUs could bring the fight to Nvidia in a way that AMD either can't or won't, and I sincerely hope they succeed. I did my part in supporting their cause. The Linux D3D8 and D3D9 wrappers are just more optimized than Intel's was, same idea but why re invent the wheel when an excellent performing and highly compatible wrapper already existed. The D3D 8 and 9 performance boost in windows came when Intel ditched their own wrapper and baked the linux wrapper into their Windows drivers. The ironic thing is that wrappers often work better than native DirectX 8 and 9 on current windows because MS has stopped maintaining it and a lot of older games perform badly with it or are just outright broken.

Regarding the issues ARC still has with some older titles that run with DX-11 or 9, a usable workaround for those games is to run them via DXVK. It's a "translater" that basically makes those games run with the Vulkan API instead of DirectX. It was originally created to make it easier to run games on Linux but it has made its way over to windows ages ago.

I kinda laugh because at first it was just like what Nvidia and and drivers used to be like. You had to carefully tweak and configure most games. Intel haD the same issue. But fixed them very quickly. No game in my hugged collection has trouble running and running well abd that's been the case since March!.. I thing those who only use these to test these don't understand the cards , I wonder if they removed the Nvidia drivers properly or have some other configuration problems because often my tests and benchmarks far outshine those from here! Dropping the feature is actually a valid strategy to eliminate bugs. If the reward of having the feature is not worth the effort to fix the bugs it bring and upkeep it, simply dropping it does make sense. But anything has a limit. The long running meme is deleting the whole codebase to remove all bugs possible.

Fun Fact, Intel Arc works WAY WAY WAY better on Linux than it does on Windows. You can use DX8/9/11 as Linux (Well WINE and Proton) use DXVK which will translate the DX calls to Vulkan. It's just sad that the big KZitem reviewers don't compare the Intel Arc cards (or really any GPU) on alternative operating systems. Which I can understand except that I can point that WIndows is only really about 60-70% of the desktop market share these days, with even Windows seeing a decline in the Steam Hardware Survey. Gamer's Nexus team, Please reach out to me if you want help in setting up a review system.

Not really. According to the most recent benchmarks done by phoronix fron 2-3 weeks ago at least, the Vulkan performance of the intel cards on linux lags waay behind windows and how the equivialent cards from nVidia and AMD perform on either OS. Maybe it'll improve once intel integrates their new kernel driver but for now the performance is sub par and you're much better off getting a AMD card if you are on Linux (or nVidia if you need CUDA or specific nvidia features and can live with driver jank) DXVK can however help the Arc cards on some dx9/10/11 titles on windows since the vulkan implementation works great there...

If they dropped the ARC card, consumers in Canada would be so fucked - the next best performing cards above the 7600/4060 are in most cases, double the price and having a 16g card available at that price range that isn't NVidia's castrated and laughable 4060/16g is a must, even the 4070 is $800+ for us from most retailers, and you can forget shopping around for better deals, or simply buying AMD - retailers caught onto that one years ago and you'll often find the prices to be similar within CDN$50 between the two brands. It's literally the cheapest one on the market for Canadian PC users right now, the ACER Bifrost A770 was $450 from memory express as a Cyber Monday deal,.and it's what my 12600k rig is currently running - i do get some artifacting in games like Valheim, but it's chewing through cyberpunk holding a respectable 40 fps on mostly high/ultra settings, with the lowest i've seen in heavy scenes at 30. (games internal benchmark ran between 32-42 fps) It's taken everything i've thrown at it and then some and having a third option in the consumer gpu market is going to be really important going forward if were to bring the prices of flagship cards like the 4090/7900 back down into the hands of gamers, like myself and my dad, who don't have money to burn on anything higher than this (A750/770)and would still like to see respectable performance, both of us having held onto ancient NVidia gpu's well past their upgrade date (he had a GTX970 till this year but he got a 3060ti and got ripped off in the process, and my old rig a GTX1060 6g.) All i'm saying is, if intel drops out - i might as well go to consoles because having had a bunk cpu from AMD already in the last 12 months, i can't afford yet more new hardware, and i've already seen how badly Valheim plays on console, my girlfriend keeps complaining about how easy it is for me to build and move around my inventory lol

@@ArtisChronicles Well, this is the chicken and egg problem. You need low prices to gain marketshare, but you need high prices to remain profitable with your currently small marketshare.
