Fascinating, but way beyond my comprehension. I just know it still works great in my 2014 Ampera.

Too bad it was done in house at GM, they slipped up and let out a good product with way too much quality control and not enough designed obsolescence. GM hates anything that actually lasts over 3 years without requiring maintenance or replacement. You will never see this mistake repeated by GM. They will make sure even their EVs require constant maintenance and new parts, despite the inherent simplicity and reliability of electric drive systems.

Muy cierto es! El Chevy Volt es el eléctrico de rango extendido mejor que existe hasta ahora. Tengo uno 2012 y en los días frescos (vivo en Florida) todavía hace 33 Millas por carga. La eficiencia como hibrido en autopista es de má s de 33 MPG.

This is the future. Pure battery drive is only a temporary solution, until the optimal battery is found, and then this. The only thing is that the internal combustion engine must be well designed, Miller's timing is a must, maybe a turbo. The generator is also efficient, compact, .....

Nice graphics but very confusing explanation, was this even tested on a focus group? For example at 4:45 "the generator is hooked up to the ring gear, and the ring is released" what does that even mean?

Servicing costs are INSANE. Can only be serviced by select dealers and they have you by the short and curlies. They sure know how to charge,

Gotta rip off the customers somehow, GM made this one too good so whenever one gets serviced they have to compensate by overcharging even the basic stuff, because nothing bigger won't be breaking down any time soon.

@@Manintoga I've never had a single problem until after 8 years it suddenly stopped charging. I took it to the dealership which "fixed" it by updating the firmware and since then the battery which was flawless given the huge unused buffer delivered 20% less of usable energy. This was made without any warning or possibility to go back to the previous firmware therefore it's pretty clear that for GM giving no upgrades or infotainment updates was not enough to kill that car.

Brakes rust because you regenerate... Brake hard once a week, for safety.... -In ANY electric car.

This presentation is completely wrong. In normal mode and charged battery, the combustion engine never kicks off.

That is not the case, if the battery has charge and normal mode is selected the combustion engine is dormant. I have driven an Ampera for at least 12 k miles.
