Until this talk I though that Satoshi is almost like a saint, but he left errors in a software... wow, really? I didn't know that. So he was just a human))))

Satoshi wasn't a God, or Deity, or infallible at all. The best comparison for his coding that I've heard from programmers is that it's basically like reading "Einstein's notes." The handwriting itself may be messy, but the vision, ideas, and theories written down are quite genius. Some of the flaws can either be explained due to Satoshi being in a rush and needing to release the code within a specific time frame (see Satoshi's famous quote: "If you don't believe it or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you") with a limited amount of error proofing. The rushed code was likely still in the phase of what we would normally call a testnet today, but resilient / strong enough for the community to take over and improve, and also resilient enough to resist government interference by the time Satoshi vanished.

Fabulous talk! One thing though, Bitcoin development may seem slow when compared to a software platform. On the contrary, I think it's extremely fast given that Bitcoin is actually a live organism. Folks may not like to admit it, similar to birds don't admit that planes fly faster than them and can carry passengers.

AA forgets a 3rd method about the way to revise conservative mission-critical system: parallel-run. In banking industry, people do it this way. For example of the mentioned multisig bug, the IT can announce a fixed version to be launched at height 12345 and reconcile the results of the (possible) two chains and only define ledger recorded in both chains as correct 'BTC' record temporarily. Let's say chain1 is the wrong chain and chain2 is the correct chain. Say, although the out loud announce beforehand, a wallet maintainer just does not pay attention and its multisig transaction is only recorded in chain1 but not chain2. Then the maintainer finally knows this announcement and fixes at height 12350 and all impact transactions from height 12345 on chain1 will be included in chain2 after height 12350. Until chain1 is dead, just keep the currency code 'BTC' for coins recorded in both chains so that no one loses money because the price of the real 'BTC' is the sum of the prices of the coins recorded in each chain. Who knows, maybe the fix would introduce another bug and IT decides to drop chain2 and plans a more thoughtful fix next time.

You mentioned Lightning as a layer 2 payment solution on bitcoin. I'm curious what your thoughts are on Rootstock as a layer 2 smart contract solution on bitcoin (especially if/when they remove the federation-based two-way peg and move to a trustless one).

Those are 2 different techs for 2 different use cases. In fact they are complementary to each other / can use each other.

@@toufisaliba2806 Yes. I didn't meant to compare/oppose them. Just asking about Rootstock since it's not as mainstream. I think Lightning's adoption would undermine many bitcoin forks' claimed value prop of offering better scalability. Similarly, Rootstock could undermine Ethereum's smart contract value prop if it were to gain adoption (though this remains to be seen since Ethereum has significant network effects).

@@DjLeo9901 good point. The world doesn't need Ethereum, these things can be built on Bitcoin. You are absolutely right. In fact Ethereum scheme is the hidden cost that folks think they are represented by the fees(gas) which is incorrect. Ethereum cost is more than 30X the fees on average as calculated in 2018 and 2019. Hidden costs are extractions of wealth.
