Thanks for the comments! Action is a long answer. Check my blog for more info. Derek's strings .011, .014, .017, .026, .036, and .046. Action is dependent on player. The right height is the height that allows you to play what you want to. Different for everyone.

Good stuff. I like how you name the string by the alternate tuning descriptions, eg G#. I like how you don’t waste 2 minutes describing how to tune to open G. I love the lesson. Thanks much!

@mateo2006 it's a Mr B's Bottleneck. I'm always up for trying new stuff. So far this is my new favorite. The Dunlop is good but this seems to fit me better. Trying out a new slide though soon. Could be changing again! Amp is a BF Vibrolux. Best amp ever made. No distortion needed. Just crank the amp!

I ain't found the tabs In the recomended link. The link gosto the site, but the link not appear. I bought 11 hours of lessons, the complete course last year, but still hadn't time for this and my listening of English still not good ... But now, I got a goal: learn slide guitar right now and I'm "learning guitar now"! Good Job, man! You have a band? Have you playing with the band On KZitem?

You seem to change up the slides you use quite a bit. What kind are you using here? Do you have a preference for it over something like the Dunlop 'Blues Bottle?' Are you playing through a clean amp with a overdrive in front?

If you're new to slide, please take note of how the instructor is blocking the strings he doesn't want to be heard with the right hand. Muting was a big part of Duane's sound and it took me years to figure that out!

Thanks, Very helpful. I'm a NOOB at slide, trying to get over the urge to yank the slide off and play what I'm thinking. I notice you're not doing much nut-side dampening. I can't get a good sound w/o it. @ Rennemo, the open string chord doesn't make a lick of difference, would just be the same thing on a different set of frets.

Is this played in a special scale? I just began learning slide so I am very confused with the different open tunings. It's like, when I play in a open tuning, I dont know where I can play on the guitar fret, to for example be in the key of A.

hey john, are there differences between the thickness of the slide? i have one thats really thick and my friend has one thats really thin, which i prefer more because its easier for my finger to fit in (thats what she said) + easier to maneuver - but does that have an effect on the tone?

@SybilDefense

A lot of slide links, especially the stones are in open G (kits the original 5 string G-man). I find G is easier to tune to quickly and less painful for acoustic guitars (less tension). The Open E tuning is used by Duane often (tho some in standard), Dylan, black crowes. Slide came about because many of the ol black field hands found it easier to tune to a chord than to learn std tuning... they just wanted to Juke! Same with "cross harp" harmonic key/style (using the 4th of the root for the key of harp). Easier to play.. all you need is heart and soul. My $0.02 anyway. Now to talk the wife into me getting another electric LP or SG so I don't have to fiddle round with them tuney-pegs. Finally, Jimi plays in open E, but often tunes down a .5 or 1 step to get a more diminished sound and to take stress off the neck (as he liked his 12 string). Can always capo up to 440 when your pals come to jam.

Nice, but you didnt mention duane's sound is from the right hand picking. If you dont finger pick it aint gonna happen.
@Malcolm.Y

Disagree, when you say it's not about precise notes. You are only measuring in half-steps. What makes Allman's blues so authentic is that he could "hear" between the half-steps.
@nikoloverso357
3 жыл бұрын
Yea that’s what he means by “it’s not precise notes” implying it’s in between your notes on the fretboard
@Malcolm.Y
3 жыл бұрын
@@nikoloverso357 It's not the idea, but the word choice, and that may not matter to how some people learn. Alllman was playing "precise notes," more precise than others were playing. They just don't have names in the half-step system of classification. And slide is not actually played on a "fret board."
@TheReleasedMusic
