"50 Cent, Chief Keef, and… Rick James," starts the rapper Comethazine, who reps both Illinois and St. Louis, when asked on the latest episode of "Open Space" to name his biggest influences. "Rick James was just a saucy ass n*gga, feel me. 50 Cent was a hood n*gga. Chief Keef was a new wave n*gga. So, I feel like I'm all three of them n*ggas in one. I'm Rick James, b*tch."
There's no shortage of wild quotes from Comethazine, the young and sprightly rapper responsible for two of the more intriguing nu-trap heaters of the year's second half, "Cop a Jag" and "Shoot Me." Listen as he talks about his entry into the rap game-quitting his job as a mechanic and jetting to New York on a whim-and even the story of how he got his name is entertaining. "N****s used to call me Cocaine in high school," he says. "'Cause I was a light-skinned n***a, you feel me? And I sipped lean, so… I put promethazine and cocaine together, and, Comethazine, feel me?"
Later, the blonde-haired rapper talked losing his "verified" status on Instagram, and offered an apology to the flick-sharing platform for snapping on a street vendor over melted cheese. ("N*ggas was like, 'You so rude, delete this shit.'") He also confirmed an upcoming mixtape, 'Death Wish,' dropping sometime next year, "probably in January." Watch "Open Space," above.
