“I ain’t gonna lie-the police just kept bothering me,” said DMV rapper Goonew during a recent visit to Mass Appeal HQ. “Can’t trap forever. Better try something new.” The Forest Creek, Maryland native got in the lab with his friends ChazBandz and Corleone to create the ‘Hey Auntie’ mixtape, ushering in their own style of rapping. Did that tape inspire Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger ad-lib in the Wakanda throne room? “Me personally, I don’t care,” said Goonew, who hasn’t seen ‘Black Panther’ yet but definitely saw a bump on his social media when the movie came out. “Everybody was mentioning me in their comments. Just pay homage.” Goonew’s got no time to worry about such things-he’s too busy pushing his music career forward. With records like “Down Bad” and his recent ‘Goonwick’ project, the future is looking bright-as long as he stays focused. Check out the latest episode of Open Space right now.
