I have a lot of free time on my hands, so I've been playing with OpenFOAM and Blender and etc.
This is a water hammer simulation.
I tried to find out how water hammer occurs in L-shaped piping.
Water hammer is also called steam hammer, and it is often seen occurring in steam piping.
The mechanism of its occurrence can be broadly divided into the following two types.
1. A case caused by collision of high-speed drain in piping.
2. A case that occurs when steam condenses rapidly and the drains collide with each other.
This time, we assumed one of them, but the flow rate of normal air or steam would be too fast,
so I intentionally set the flow rate to a lower value.
In summary, I confirmed that the water mass accumulated inside the pipe collided with the pipe wall due to the inflowing air.
As you know, the specific gravity of water is about 1000 times that of air.
Even a small mass of water generates a large amount of energy when it hits the inner wall of a pipe at high speed.
However, there may be little chance of hearing this water hammer sound from air piping inside a Japanese factory.
This is because the water drainage system inside the pipes is excellent.
This is because the water drainage system inside the pipes is excellent. However, steam piping is different.
This is because vapour has a heavier specific gravity than air, and also because condensation occurs.
