Did you know: This was the first film John Williams received an Oscar for. He would go on to win four more: JAWS, Star Wars Ep. IV, E.T., and Schindler's List. I am not sure how much of this particular piece is from the original play and how much is Williams' work.

Isaac Stern's playing is ace but what knocks me out is the music written by John Williams. He just had Jerry Bock's songs to adapt the whole movie score and what he brought us is a stand alone first class score, starting with this insane cadenza and concert-hall-worthy composition!

John Williams is credited not for composing but for adapting and conducting the score, which he did brilliantly. While it's possible that Williams composed the overture's cadenza, it's just as possible it was composed by Jerry Bock, who wrote additional music for the film. The remainder of the music, beginning at 1:06, derives from the stage show, and can be heard heard on the 1964 Broadway cast CD as "The Wedding Dance" and on the 1967 London cast CD as "The Bottle Dance".
