They have always had keyframing. Back before computers became involved keyframes were simply the key pose frames that were created by the Animation Director / Keyframer, then those frames were handed over to other animators called, "Inbetweeners," who would then create the inbetween frames by hand. So Chuck Jones, I. Freleng, and even Walt Disney, would illustrate keyframes, then inbetweeners would do their own manual interpolation of the character/object movements between the keyframes created by the Keyframer / Animation Director.

Im usually a quick study with things like this, and these sort of videos help me to figure out the weird logics that go into the various programs i play with. thank you for a comprehensive take on an otherwise very confusing (and non-self explanatory!) program with a lot of hard features! Keep making things like this!

Holy Goodness Gracious dude, you totally saved me on this!!! Just downloaded this program and started out feeling lightly terrified by it all as the furthest I have gone digitally in animation is messing around with really ancient stuff like eztoon and some other freeware here and there with a lot of copy and paste. Thank you so much for this video, your voice is really pleasant and I look forward to trying this out in earnest!

You can select how many frames you want to see when you activate onion skin. For me this little red greenish circle on the side of the frame number is not showing. Do you have an idea how I can make it show? The little key for keyframe does also not show on the left side of my levels.

You usually separate the layers in traditional animation for scenes where 1 part of the body doesn't move and and something else moves for example a dialogue where the body is on hold and the mouth and jaw is the only thing moving... they usually do this to reduce the line being inconsistent 😝 for Digital animation though we can do copy paste that's our advantage over those oldies who refuse to move to digital animation
