Good explanation of the differences. As an ODP, you have missed off the College of Operating Department Practitioners, who are our Professional body, where as the HCPC are the regulatory body. There are two, standards we have to adhere to with the HCPC, in order to practice autonomously, conduct and performance. As an ODP, we specialise in the theatre environment, within our trust, student nurses are not routinely sent on placement there. Should a nurse wish to work in theatre, there is more training they have to do, to aquire the necessary skills and a top up course would have to be taken, in order to work in Anaesthetics. ODP's are not just confined to theatre's, as an Anaesthetic ODP, my role takes me to, Maternity, MRI, Cath lab, IR, Endoscopy, PICU, A&E, CT, ITU, anywhere, where there is an airway emergency. ODP's have a lot of transferable skill, which are now being recognised by trust's, which is a great thing for our profession, in moving forward.
