Who didn't have this game as a child? Or at least a neighbor friend who had one.
"Operation" was a game skill and dexterity where you had to remove parts from a "patient" without setting off the buzzer.
It was invented by a University of Illinois student by the name of John Spinello in 1964 who sold the rights to the game to a toy designer by the name of Marvin Glass for mere 500 dollars. The actual deal was supposed to be 500 dollars and a job after graduation. He got the 500 bucks but the toy designer, Marvin Glass, didn't uphold the job part of the deal.
Glass sold it to Milton Bradley, which began making it in 1965 and made the game until Hasbro took it over.
There is no telling how many millions of dollars was/is made off of this game. Sorry John, but at least you taught us all a good lesson.
