George Leite i actually had a hit and run with a deer when my car was parked and empty! 😬 the deer rad across four lanes of traffic barely missing two moving cars running into the parking lot. The deer slid across the hood of my car before doing a backflip into the windshield of the car next to me, the horns also punctured the side panel. The deer than got up and ran away. The only damage to my car was a trail of fur across the hood of my car, the car next to mine wasn’t so lucky!

My dad was a supervisor at Eglin in the mid 60s when the 1st SOW was experimenting with Skyhook, I believe on C-123s. When they did experiments like this, airmen could volunteer for an experiment and be given a day off as a reward. Well, my dad had this one troop who wasnt all that useful when he was there and he would volunteer for every test program they had. Which worked out OK cause he wasnt missed all that much. Well, Skyhook came along and this guy signed up to test it (tbh it sounds kinda fun, I might have done that too). They suited him up, sat him on the test range, flew in, snagged the cable and... the winch broke. For about 2 hours this guy was flopping around at 5,000' over western Florida being centrifuged vertically behind a C-123 while a couple of technicians pounded on the winch. They finally got him winched in and he got his day off - after a week in the hospital shifting his internal organs back into their original location. Apparently while in the hospital he was also cured of the "volunteer" thing...

With the skyhook, you should have the grappler in the rear. Have the hook attached to a small parachute (like the parachute for the little green army men or a little smaller). Use that as a bobber for fishing, then when you fly by the hook line it will grab the cord and real in the baby or anything else you would like to wench in. For the winch itself instead of foam use something like spool from sowing thread or fishing line it shouldn't flex in the middle. I hope this helps. Love the concept.

Good try! A little rough on baby, though she came through with flying colors. The USAF Special Recon Forces actually used a similar technique to retrieve downed pilots at sea. I remember seeing a film (that's right a film, not a video) when I was a C.A.P. cadet back in the 70's. This took place at Pease Air Force Base. You might go back into their archives and see what you can find. BTW I love your videos. They're always entertaining.

From my memory of that being done during WWII the had spars drooping from the tail of the airplane with a loop tide between them that led into the winch inside the plane and the loop was to capture the balloon and tether rope . The other was to drag a grappling hook to snag a loop strung between to poles with a tether hooked to a sling to pick a person . Both were used during WWII , Korea , and Vietnam to pick up downed pilots and other personnel . Yes through Korea and Vietnam it was mostly by helicopters but the same ways were still used even by them .
