One of my favorite Opeth songs, on my favorite of their albums. I'm a little surprised that they decided to do a big show and bring the death vocals back. I think that you can hear the wear and tear on his death vox, though the cleans remain great. I think that part of their recent changes revolve around Mikael's difficulty with doing the harsh singing day in and day out. Or, maybe I'm talking crazy. But Opeth gets to do what they want. They don't have to carry on playing the same way as the early days. We'll always have their classic records. For me, they put about about 9 albums that were damn near perfect. That's better than most anyone else.

Truth. Sucks that his growling vocals are hard for him to do nowadays but I love Opeth no mater what. He does have a few moments in this performance where they sound really good still too. Like any of his growls that are just a sound and not actual lyrics still come out pretty well.
@StuTheMoose

I saw them later on in this tour and his growls were absolutely spot on. It's weird how he's not consistent, but every time I've seen them (in the same venue)from the Watershed tour onwards (not including the heritage tour which was all clean vocals) his growls were pretty much perfect.

I think his harsh vocals still hold up compared to any other death metal vocalist out there.

How do you pick a "favorite"?I know you said "one of" so I can't really chastize you, since you are not saying this is THEE best Opeth song, since in my opinion ALL their songs are "one of their best" 🤣 Truly a unique band in a class of their own with a diversity of style & mastery that ransends ALL genres IE Opeth IS their OWN genre IMO.

@@_BLACKSTAR_ My Arms, Your Hearse was my first album of theirs, and I think there's always something special about the first one you pick up. I agree that Opeth has a long span of near-perfect albums. For me, everything from "My Arms" through to "Watershed" were spot-on. (not hating on Orchid or Morningrise, but their sound quality isn't as good). I have been less drawn to their more recent stuff, but I totally respect the direction they've gone.

Opeth is one of my favourite bands of all time. Even though Mikael's harsh vocals are not as good as they used to be 10 or 20 years ago, Opeth still delivers a hell of a show every time they play live. Next you should do Porcelain Heart (music video) from them!

They had also technical difficulties on the Royal Albert Hall DVD. A camera man stepped onto the pedal board of Fredrik (the other guitarist) :D I love Opeth, it's certainly one of those bands where it takes some time to really get into it. Mikael is pretty much Opeth's Jari, he basically writes all the songs.

this is from the concept album My Arms Your Hearse, which is one of my favorite Opeth albums. the neat thing about each song is that the last word or lyric in the song is the name of the next track. so the next song on the album is Credence. There are many amazing songs by this band to check out, but; The Night and the Silent Water, The Drapery Falls, Blackwater Park, Master's Apprentices, and Moonlapse Vertigo are my top 5 favorite tracks by them.

It's not pornstache, it's old school progestache :). Åkerfeltdt is very much into older progressive rock. And you got to do more Opeth too. You can have a quite different type of songs depending what you pick. Opeth can take a while to get into and it did for me and they have different kind of songs especially depending on era.. But mostly progressive death metal with softer and harder parts on their not latest albums. Latest albums are more prog rock without growls. I prefer their older stuff though.
