@ SOS Thanks for the video, I have like many other Europeans also a Opinel N ° 9 to the mushroom search. I will accept your improvements and optimizations for my Opinel. I get this with my "two left hands" just still! -? Maybe I'm trying to burn an oak leaf with acorns and my name with the soldering irons? Unfortunately, I do not have your options, a cheap soldering iron and tung oil I will buy myself and use the soldering iron on a piece of wood or branch to practice a lot. The base counter with the Ranger beads I will not implement, because I can not deal with it! We did not expect ranger beads from the Austrian army. This knife is a classic among us among the mushroom-pickers in Europe! Thanks again, it's just mushroom season! :-) Now I will also subscribe your channel, because I find your posts on KZitem very interesting - and of course a thumbs up for the video!

Simplicity, pragmatism, affordability, customizability, good blade. It has a rustic charm to it and it's an old design with a lot of history attached, that has changed little because it just works.
@RippSnortin
Жыл бұрын
@@AnotherAnon l get all that. But these guys that reject a knife that has .0002 worth of side slop are all gaga over these. A steel blade held together with a stick and pin. The first time l saw one of these was about 35 years ago when a Greek guy l worked with showed me his favorite knife. In my mind l was thinking " how primitive". Then over the years they started catching on here. There are some cool looking modified ones l've seen. But as an actual tool? Still don't get it. I have one,but it just sits there. I feel pretty much the same about the Mora Knives. Great knife, l have 2, but they just don't give me the "fizzzz".

Surprised Opinel knives are known around the world, here in France they're usually used by "grandpa the farmer " or by gypsies , that's why my EDC knive is a number 12 for Years . I really like the way you customise yours. Great job . French should be proud for three little but very useful things : Opinel and Bic lighters and pens 😄

Very prettily worked but that's not how you're supposed to open an Opinel knife. Hold it by the Virobloc (the metal locking ring) blade edge facing down. Tap the wooden heel of the handle on a firm surface and the point of the blade pops right out. Works every time, even if the wood has swollen or the blade is dirty. It's called Le Coup de Savoyard or the Savoy Tap.

Oh I have a semi related tip to throw out there. If the wood you are paintinting or treating is really dry mix 1/2 mineral oil with oil base paint or stain for 1 or 2 coats then allow to dry and finish with a couple more coats. This is to lower the amount of paint it requires. Especially if the stain or paint is expensive this can save a lot of product and allow the wood to soak up all it needs.

Nice! From what I've seen in the Catalogs, one can get the Opinels from Isty Bitsy to NBA Center sizes, and either Stainless or Carbon. I also understand that a lot of Europeans carry Opinels in Stainless for "Personal Dining Tools". You know, cutting Sausage, slicing Cheese, etc, especially in those places like England where carrying Self Defense Knives are VERBOTEN! Think I might get one, but that Cold Steel version looks nice also. Thanks.
