hi sir, you subjected the material to a sander, does that damage the Cr coating on the material, the chromium will depele indicating a wrong reading, i am really not entirely sure, please correct me if i am wrong

Hi, so Cr will usually be in the form of an alloying element in which case it does not easily come out of the metal through grinding. On the other hand, elements from the abrading wheel may fall on the sample and may give high value if Al (when using Alumina wheel). So this must always be cleaned using acetone. For Chromium coatings, it is not advisable to do this testing for the reasons you mentioned. Other methods like ED XRF or wet chemistry can be done.
