I’m a native Japanese speaker and that’s exactly how I became fluent in Spanish. Great tips for all language learners!

@@itsumoookini Thanks, Itsumoookini! I really appreciate your support. I'm back to work at my company now, so it's been tough to make vids lately. Should get back to it soon, though.
This video deserves more views/likes! It's so nice to have someone actually lay out a study method and go into detail! It can be such a struggle to know how to study effectively and find ways to do it that work well for your own routines, but this video is very helpful.

Thank you, I taught myself years ago to an NLP 4 or 3 level in the 1980's. I could only get a hold of books back then as we didn't have the Internet. I have since forgotten a lit as I don't use it, so I went to university to learn and they tested me to be upper intermediate level. But I didn't enjoy it as it as I don't have a lot of time on my hands and I felt rushed with uni. I really like your ideas as I believe this will ignite the passion to which university killed a bit. Thank you 🙏

Thx John for the vid. I’m hoping to get to N1, but I’m starting as a freshman high school in four months and I don’t know much time I will have to study Japanese. So I was wondering if you think I can get to N1 during highschool?. And also thanks for your videos because I just started learning Japanese a month ago and I didn’t know what method I should learn Japanese until I saw your other video about how you learned Japanese.

Sounds like you’re about to start an exciting new chapter in life! N1 might be a bit ambitious with your other HS responsibilities, but not impossible. Because you’re still so young, I’d say don’t worry too much about speed. You’re already at a huge advantage because you’re starting when your brain is still quite pliable. Take care of yourself, life a balanced and healthy lifestyle, and experience as many different things as you can. If Japanese really sticks out to you, that might be a sign to pursue it in depth.

Great video! I wasn't really putting any effort for the past 5 months in learning and because I procrastinated a lot I didn't really make any progress... just recently, last week I set my self a goal and actually start relearning stuff, and in 5 days I learned all the hiragana, and plan to learn the katakana next week and review a lot of grammar and vocab material... just watched you "N1 in 2 years" video and that also motivated me to continue on this journey. My goal is being able to work and move to japan (although that's a whole different challenge), and being fluent in the language. I love the culture!

Very useful video, thanks! Question, did you make flash cards for grammar points? And, I'm particularly finding the listening component difficult, so any other tips for this would be great!
@JohninJapanOFFICIAL
4 ай бұрын
For grammar points, no. For kanji, yes. However, I DO use flashcards (Anki) now and I think they're a great way to learn. Regarding listening, it might sound counterintuitive, but I think it can be helpful to listen to stuff you already understand. If you have a textbook with conversation audio, try playing a video in your mind as you listen to the conversations. During this process, avoid translating to English. Then, jump to a more difficult dialogue and see how you do. If you have trouble understanding the more difficult dialogue, read through it, learn new words, and then try again. Try this method and let me know if it helps at all! If it doesn't, we can think of something else.

Hey John! How did you use RTK to study kanji? Did you do it simply by reading the book or did you also make flashcards etc?

It would be really cool to see a video that breaks down different study methods for us listeners to pick and choose from. Is 1-10-30 an original idea?
@JohninJapanOFFICIAL

That's a great suggestion. No, the method is from a book called『脳を活かす!必勝の時間攻略法』which I've noted in the video description.
