Perfect explanation. I did not know about the fuse ratting part but I rarely connect my panels in parallel. Always something to learn I guess 😅

I have the exact same C-T multimeter. Had it for 20+ years... Never failed on me.

@paulbarrette2557 I'm not sure how old mine is; it came from my Dad's garage years ago. Thank you for watching 👍

You have a nice setup there with your arrays, I'm working on some similar ideas for my house, I don't like the idea of panels on the roof where I don't have easy access to them. Closing in on 10k subs too, keep the videos coming.

I'm glad to inspire people. I wouldn't go the roof route unless a professional does it.

Humm, I tried connecting two strings of different wattage panels. Just like you, one string was 200 watts, the other 100 watts, which I hooked up just like you. Everything worked fine until about 1 1/2 years later when I noticed a power drop. At first, I thought it might be due to passing clouds. Then, I thought it might be dirt on the panels. So, I went to clean them and noticed many thin, shiny lines in the panels. It turns out the panels were degrading prematurely, and the manufacturer said it was due to connecting different watt panels together. So, I hope the same doesn't happen to you.

I don't see how that's possible. Sounds like a manufacturing issue to me.

I'm getting ready to hook up my second Growatt for 220 split phase and I will add another 1200 watts of panels. Programming the growatts is a pain hopefully it goes well.

I'm sure you'll figure it out. Have fun 😁

I've always thought I needed a seperate charge controller for different arrays that have different panels. You obviously have shown that I don't need to do so as long as I don't over shoot voltage. I know over shooting amps isn't as important or is it? I really wished I went with 200watt panels instead of (15)100watt panels but that being said, if I can incorporate a string of 200s with my 100s,I won't be as bummed. Back to the new solar project board...YAY just in time for spring/summer.

Be careful not to go over the amps as well. Good luck with your project

So on your math for panel layout, you multiplied the overall voltage by the 10.99amps. Is that based on the lower amps being the default that the controller will go to automatically? Basically making that lower array only draw upto 10.99amps even tho its capable of 11.7?

I've got 4 x 230 watt and 2 x 410. My hybrid inverter can take 60 - 500 volts. I think I worked out the maths. All the 230 watt panels in series. 120 volts vmp. 8 amps imp. Then 2 x 410 in series 80 volts vmp and 11 amp imp. Then the 2 sets in parallel. Does this sound about right

It should be, or you'd notice the loss in production.

@@Roll2Videos I've only done it recently. I've tried so many combinations because I've got so many panels. 3 different systems. So to setup it up to get the most out of is a pain in the arse. Need to get rid of old poly 230 panels. Take 10 of them to produce same as my 4 new mono crystalline panels

@sun-sea-solar Maybe one of the 230s is no good.

@@Roll2Videos just very old , 12% efficiency compared to half cell 23% makes a huge difference. Especially in the cloudy UK . If I could go back in time to a year ago. For the same money If I bought stuff now it would 3 times capacity and power/ production

@sun-sea-solar I know; it's wild how much the price has changed over the years.
