Love your videos! Is the picture on the thumbnail your finish KitFox? If so, the black & white stripes on the wings are vinyl stickers or Oratex?

What's the name of the stol pilot/builder in Alaska that you mentioned has a KZitem channel?
I don't have an external mike so if I forget and get very far from the phone you can't hear me. Sorry about that I have tried to do better. I'm not a pro I just use my phone for videos. Harlan

How do you do the stitching? or is it NOT needed with the Oratex glue?
@KitfoxPilot
3 жыл бұрын
Oratex book says that you don't have to stitch if the cap strips are at least one inch wide, but it is up to the builder. Many still rib stitch.
@DanYocum
Жыл бұрын
@@KitfoxPilot Brandon has *almost* convinced me to stitch (“Do you want to be the next Steve Wittman??”) but I did stress testing on the glue and man, that stuff held 3x recommended weight - 11.8lbs - w/o pulling off at 90 degrees so I don’t think I will.
@KitfoxPilot

@@DanYocum When in doubt Stitch! There is sure nothing wrong with stitching. Kitfox factory has never used oratex so remember that also.

Thanks for doing these! I am almost brave enough to do my wings after watching you and Lauren. What temp did you end up using with the iron to do the fiberglass??
@KitfoxPilot
3 жыл бұрын
I ended up at 130c or 266f on the iron. The heat gun ran closer to 300f. Use a scrap piece of the laker leading edge to test the melting/warping point to get what temp to use . You need to be as hot as you can to melt the glue with out warping the fiberglass.

Thanks for the kind words Allan. The kit comes with a work guide book that I show some pics from. The covering comes with a work book also and that is were those came from. A very big help is team kitfox builder forum. Many builders there that can answer most questions from their experience.

Hi Harlan. I see the black backing on the 6000, would you say that this would 100% block out light and eliminate seeing the frame tubing when in direct sunlight.
@KitfoxPilot

Kerry, the black is an option and is to block out all transparency . You can still get the see though kind.

@@KitfoxPilot I think this is the way forward for me.the extra expense verses the time saved plus the finish is a no brainer for me. @@doglipdoug I ordered the standard width , I suppose thats 1.8. 35 meters is what they sell you for a kitfox. They sent 4 rolls of 2 inch tapes. I used 2 since I didn't rib stitch. 2 rolls of 4 inch tapes which i had them take off because i was double lapping the leading edge anyway and they are really high. I have 4 ish yards left?? Thanks for watching! My email is in the info on my last video 26. I'll be glad to send you my invoice when you are ready to order to get an idea.

Good Morning now do you have to do anything else to the wing or is it done ?
@KitfoxPilot
3 жыл бұрын
Morning Gene. As soon as I get the plumbing inside the wing done, I'll put the top on and its a finished wing. That's the main draw to Oratex.
