14:58 considering that Go Nagai's Cutey Honey more or less laid down the foundation for future magical girl shows like Sailor Moon (hell, Osamu Tezuka's "Princess Knight," Fujio Akatsuka's "Himitsu no Akko-chan" and Mitsuteru Yokoyama's "Sally the Witch" are the grandparents of the entire shojo genre; all written by men), I ain't even surprised.

I've yet to finish this series, but as soon as I saw the first three episodes, it kind of convinced me of trying to get this manga. It's beautiful, and I really like that Takeo may not be the hottest of protags, and yet he is a really good guy and you do want to root for him. Prior to Marin and Gojo, I kind of felt this was one of the better relationships portrayed in a manga - even though there probably are other relationships that probably blow this one out of the water. Also, one of the anecdotes that I like about this series is that when the editor or someone at the publishing company mentioned how Takeo was "ugly", I think the artist or Mangaka felt like saying "why do you mean ugly?", meaning Takeo is their type when it comes to men it seems...it's funny, and legit makes me think these people just wanted to show a genuine relationship with a dude that isn't your typical romance protagonist. If this was a subversion, I say it was a good one.

One of the subversions I think that really needs to be addressing is the "misunderstanding" trope that runs rampant in shoujo manga, where characters don't talk and let their thoughts almost ruin their budding relationship. Takeo's friend cuts right through that BS immediately and lets the audience enjoy their fluffy happy romance without the drawn out drama attached to those tropes.

Judging from the thumbnail alone: The "monkey" is magnetic - capturing both the other character’s attention and the audience's immediately and effortlessly. Also, he is looking straight ahead while focusing on getting his nutrients, like a true alpha predator. His good genetics and habits have blessed him with his frame, giving him the domineering presence one needs to assert themselves. And yet his expression is entirely calm, projecting a soothing aura of safety that fills the air with a certain tranquility. The woman of course is drawn to this, and cannot help but soak in the would-be protector's aura. The supposed "chad" however must also defer to the superior energy. His head slightly tilted and downturned is a subtle display of submission. Also, his crossed legs make him look gay af. Every picture is worth a thousand words, and this thumbnail is no exception. 10/10

I really liked the 90s Shoujo protagonist stereotype. They're cute but not overtly hot, fun and quirky. Actually now that I think of it, the 90s Shounen protags were much better too... being adventurous and rebellious rather then a blank self insert for losers.

Another note I need to make. While the main focus around Rinko and Takeo is super sweet and fluffy, it keeps a note of reality around these characters. Such as interfering on behalf of your friends love lives (even with best intentions) is not always the best choice, or sometimes budding romances are just not meant to be, (in the case of the girl crushing on Takeo and the glasses girl crushing on Suna) I actually liked these parts as it helped break up the icky sweet parts without dipping into the ham-fisted drama and or doing it at the cost of the characters. It was nice.

Love this show. It's just wholesome. Takeo is hilarious, Makoto is just a bro, and Yamato is definitely best girl material(a rarity, imo for any main love interest in anime/manga) i even love Makoto's sister, and genuinely feel bad for her losing to Yamato in the end(again despite her still being best girl). Favourite moment, Yamato stressing over holding hands like its a*al or something. Totally get why Takeo fell hard for this one. she's a gem.

Also, I'd reckon that the most amount of villainess style stuff comes from Korea. Though most villainess style webtoons just being kinda samey could contribute to that opinion of mine.

Dang, i hate when some Anime are basically a "commercial for the Manga". It actually makes me Not want to read the Manga, like that one Anime Legend of The Legendary Hero (i think that's the name) it's 24 episodes long and builds up to what could have been an Amazing final battle and then it just Stops. i think it might even say something like "what's going to happen next? Buy the Manga" at the end, i was So Mad. It's Really Really hard for me to find English Dub Anime that i enjoy enough to keep thinking about after i finish an episode and it's even harder to find one that tells a complete story. Berserk for me is a rather unique situation in the sense that it's just so damn good i will watch anything they put out for it. It's been that way since 1997-98 when my friend and i first saw Berserk and bought the 8DVD box set for some absurd price (like $90) at a Suncoast shop in the Mall.

I do like this as someone who occasionally enjoys a cutesy story in between bloody meditations on human nature. Then again, the only Shoujo I'll ever recommend is Alatsuki no Yona. Basically because it's a Fantasy epic based in ancient Chinese and Korean beliefs and mythology (specifically... Feng shui.) It's a legit good story that's basically a royal court romance combined with a reverse harem, combined with the story of a runaway princess exile; all topped with a female protagonist who's legitimately well-written. And no, not in the Captain Marvel/Rey Palpatine/Mindy Kaling's Velma way, where they're perfect from start to finish and the story bends over backwards to make them seem cool. I'm talking the Casca/Ms Brisby/ first Wonder Woman movie sort of route, where we see this weak, inexperienced girl struggle and fight to be actually capable. Hell, it took her over 20 episodes of the 24 episode season to ACTUALLY HIT SOMETHING with that bow and arrow.
