Are you having trouble with mice or rats eating your garden produce? Try this simple bucket trap method. It is super effective and humane.
We're out at a garden in the Rancho Santa Fe area of San Diego, and there are a lot of parks & open areas here. That's great for enjoying nature, but it also means the potential for a lot of rodents, especially rats & mice.
To protect your garden and to keep them under control, you just need two things: birdseed and a 5-gallon bucket.
Fill up your bucket about halfway with water and place it in an area that they can easily get to and in it. You want this to be accessible for them.
Pour some seed in to cover the surface of the water. They'll think they're going to score and have a bucket full of food, but they'll end up getting trapped in the water.
So does it work? Definitely! I used this setup just last week, and I had 9 mice in the bucket at the same time!
This is a very effective way to manage them and to do it safely.
