I downsized from 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house to a one bedroom condo 640 square feet. I live alone so it's easier. One thing I did was have no couch. I got one big comfy chair I can curl up in, and a chaise lounge that extends INTO the room so doesn't take up room running along a wall. I am slim, so bought a single bed. It's plenty big enough for me and makes much more room in my bedroom. I also have double-duty furniture. Several hassocks provide storage and seating. An antique walnut table on wheels can be rolled around when I want to eat.....wherever I choose to eat! I never feel cramped or crowded.

0:45 Hide the clutter by storing everything away inside matching fabric cubes ($1 at the Dollar Store). Fabric cubes hide clutter. Plastic containers continue to show the clutter. Store rarely used items at the top. Toys at the bottom for Violet. Cubes are easy to transport, such as when picking things up and putting them all away. Teach Violet how to pick up her toys at an early age. Open storage is claustrophobic and chaotic. For serenity, use the same type of storage units throughout a room. One or two neutral colors may be best, such as sage and tan. Cubes are also easy to sort and declutter. Organize items by categories, such as spaghetti, cereal, baking goods, etc. Fit heavy or large items between the cubes, such as appliances, canned goods, tall jars of utensils, etc. Before you begin, design a plan. Decide where to place the most useful items. Convenience is key.

Decluttering is the hardest and best thing you can do. I have 4 children and became a single parent when my oldest was 8 and my youngest was 5 months old. All 5 of us lived in an 850 sq. ft. house, which I still live in. Anyway, I was forced to keep on top of clutter or it would have become overwhelming. We periodically donated unplayed with toys, and my kids had to put away toys they were playing with before they could take out something else. I had two small rooms upstairs (former attic) for my two oldest daughters, and a shared bedroom downstairs for my two youngest sons. We made it work, but the key is to be organized and eliminate clutter. It can be done, and it eliminates a lot of anxiety! Take care!

Good to see you! I discovered that many lip balms have petrochemicals in them, which dry the lips & make us 'addicted' to using them. These days I read the ingredients and make sure the stick is all natural. Well as natural as a lip balm can be I guess 😂. That way if I run out, my lips don't feel bad like I have to have lip balm on them. Re: getting organized around the home, this works for me. Whenever I did my big grocery shop I picked up a transparent tote (easy to see what's inside and less need for a label.) Buy whatever size works for your storage areas. Make sure it has a sealable lid. I grab stuff quickly & dump them in the totes, roughly organized in categories. ie summer shoes, travel bags, craft supplies, summer clothing etc. Anything I don't want goes in a bag for garbage or the thrift store. Then once all my stuff is in totes and I have a much better idea of what I have, I go back through each one and refine the organization, taking anything out I now realize is superfluous to requirement. This can be done over weeks & months. I get rid of unwanted items quickly before I can change my mind! The totes are easy to store and stack. They are portable and quick to access, the clip down lids stop stuff tipping out, and they keep unwanted critters getting in too. I live in a rural property and soon found out cardboard storage boxes are not good enough to keep our stuff safe and clean. Mice! And we just had pest control in for an earwig issue. Yuk! I am traumatized. 🤢🤮😖😲. I was so grateful for those totes that kept them out of my stuff. The thing about totes with lids tho, is make sure if they are big enough for a child to climb in, that the lid can't shut down on them. This is mostly a problem with hinged lids which I avoid. But when I had big totes around kids I drilled a few holes in the lids just in case. 🤗

Dishes: You only need 1 set or two. A few cups but not ten of them. Everything you have duplicates of, get rid of. You need ample food storage items, but not boxes full of tupper ware ! If you can pair down duplicates and redundancies, that is half the battle. I know you need kid approved dinner items, but whatever you can get rid of, is less that has to find a place to be stored. (Clothing) if you haven't worn it in a years time, other than seasonal items, them toss them. Decluttering can be a very freeing experience.

We have that exact 2 step ladder you got. We put a hook on the wall to keep it out of the way behind a door - works a treat because that ladder is sturdy but lightweight. Dig today's apartment. For that price and that nice an apartment, I'd probably see about using it as a 2 BR with a home office or similar.

I too have a chapstick problem. I have one next to my bed, two in my desk drawer, one in the downstairs loungeroom, a small tub in the car and one in my handbag. I also have sticks in a couple of my favourite jackets just in case I forget to take one out with me. That's not counting the three spare chapsticks I have just in case I lose one of my other chapsticks. All different flavours too. 😊

Recommend watching a 40 minute episode of Hoarders every night .. initially will make you feel better. As in " at least We're not that bad ".. then it could be an inspiration to start getting rid of excess on a regular basis.. as in take a bag out every day.Or at least every trash pick up day...Yes, this will mostly be your job Cash. You can do it Papa!

The Bay and NYC are the 2 most expensive places in the US. Sorta crazy actually. LA is cheaper than both.

I put together a Sortwise hanging unit yesterday and stuffed it full of my clothes, best freestanding shelves ever. In my house it's Blistex in every purse, pocket and bedside table, lol. Growing up in a house with 3 boys and 3 girls we had separate bathrooms for each, no way were we using or cleaning the boys bathroom, lol.

We had the same arrangement, girls bathroom and boys bathroom. We all gravitated to the purple bathroom and would bang on the door all the time and yell at whoever was in there to hurry up, meanwhile there were 4 other full baths that were not used much. 🙄 Go figure. 5 boys 3 girls.. 6 bedrooms in 5000sqft and we fought over the purple bathroom. 🤣 Then daddy rearranged everything and the boys were upstairs and the girls on the 1st floor. No one was allowed to fight over the bathroom anymore. Fun times.

Cash you should really check with landlord and see if you can add a few shelves in kitchen for more storage… (I love to organize and make spaces useful and tiding so just in that space it could work for you!) Love the apartment tours and visits to Japan with family!👍💕😀🇺🇸🙏🏻 Love comments of truth you put out!

Oh my....you guys need a bigger place to live! You work hard Cash and your little girl needs some space! New York is so fabulous and as long as one has roommates it's possible. That apartment was pretty nice except that one with the inside view...kinda dark, creepy. Love the Flatiron building! ❤️💚❤️💚❤️

A great video. Decluttering is so liberating but so hard to get motivated to do. I need to do that... Nice apartment. The mortar on the brick wall in the living area bothered me - it looked crooked. Happy weekend to all.

I was hoping you were not swimming with the subway alligators yesterday afternoon! That flooding was something else! Love the organization-in-action in the kitchen! In small apartments we often need to go vertically, because there's so little to work with horizontally ... $3.4K for a 3 bed, 2 bath WITH laundry??? Wow. I'd use it as a 2 bed room with the third one off the kitchen as a dining/office/zoom-school room ... The view will matter less, and the price is still doable for roommates and/or a family. BTW, that little Violet is adorable!!

Your kitchen looks much better. Just getting stuff off the floors is a good first step. Don't worry about buying stuff you need to help you organize. About that apartment, that was weird having 2 identical bathrooms right beside each other. But it had a wine fridge so, it's alright with me. I swear, the best most affordable apartments that you show are always above 96th street in Harlem basically.

In the evening you may see an elderly man chilling in the park. He’s nice to talk to and he’ll give you the 411 on who lives around there & what’s happening in the vacant building across the street
