I store my yarn in a few shelves that my mom built when she was pregnant with me. Some of them are rectangles and some are squares and are painted in different solid colors and have been used for like dozens of different things over my lifetime, but now I have them stacked so the rectangles hold my (overflowing) yarn collection and the squares hold my books!! I really need to organize it, it’s kind of a mess

I use a hanging closet organizer so I can see all my yarn and access it, but also close the door and hide the chaos if I want to. It also doesn’t take up floor space which is a plus in my small apartment.

Lots of vintage crochet patterns use fingering weight yarn or "knitting yarn" because it was the standard size for decades so I highly recommend those if you want to crochet more but love the sock weight yarn.

For my yarn storage I got some of those under the bed zippered storage bags that have a plastic covering on the top to put all my yarn in. It works for now. I need shelves though.

'Liked' your video using the time stamps. 995 %of my yarn is acrylic. I use giant plastic tubs with lids. Label each bin with yarn color - I organize by color or technique (crochet vs knit) - usually not by type. Stack the bins up to the ceiling on my front porch (not climate controlled). I keep a few project bags with yarns & patterns next to my couch to work on projects while I watch TV or movies. I've inherited several yarn stashes from other crafters plus their storage bins. And I am STILL buying yarn.... You have more patience than I, but I'm inspired to crochet my first cardi.

This is a super cool video! I only crochet so I don’t know anything about mohair (?) or like any other yarn except for acrylic! I organize my yarn in a 3 tier drawer thing and it’s not really the best way because I have found a spider in one of the containers so I’m thinking of getting storage containers with a lid to prevent that😅

Crocheters do use fine weight merino wool to crochet with I live in the sub tropics of Australia and we also use 8ply which is your 3weight and 5ply which is your sport weight
@knitwithkali

Oh I’m sure crocheters do use it, but it’s not very common here to see them using fine/lace weight, or even fingering weight when creating sweaters or cardigans/other garments since it takes a lot of time to make.

@knitwithkali

Thank you for watching! Some advice I’d give is to learn how to read a pattern because once you know how to read a pattern (aka just learn the abbreviations for the crochet terms) and you’ll be able to create anything.

kopykali's advice is good. But I'd say the best thing for a beginner to learn is that the basic crochet stitches graduate in height - from slip stitch to treble crochet. once you understand the different heights from shortest to tallest THEN YOU CAN CROCHET ANYTHING. My fave stitches are HDC and SL ST. I've been crocheting for decades, and knitting about 10 years. I prefer crochet - easier to 'frog'. Also the smallest hook I use is 6.5mm - my fave hook sizes are 9mm and up with #4 yarn and up. The bigger the hook and thicker the yarn the faster the project will be completed. Conversely, a project using SC with 5.5mm hook and #3 yarn will take forever - and a lot of patience. good luck and welcome to crochet world.

Have you tried other cotton? Do you find the lion brand cotton it more expensive? I’ve been using Hobbii yarn and I really like it so far.
@knitwithkali

Yes, I’ve tried many other cotton yarns, and that one happened to be my favorite at the time. I have no clue if it’s more expensive to be honest since I don’t really look at price, but I do want to try some other cotton yarns in the future, so I could compare then.
