@Mark: Nature can replicate it (thus SETI). "If you can't do it under controlled conditions how is it possible under the numerous constraints nature throws at us?" Because it takes 10^5 - 10^6 years, and under pressures and with reactive chemicals that makes it very difficult to test. (We don't need to replicate, just test.) Russell describes it today as some of the more difficult experiments we can do. Yet they are making progress, as opposed to those who question if it is possible at all.

because the conditions are unknown? |Guys like john sutherland, this guy, nick lane, jack szostak can only ever show a plausible naturalistic explanation for life.BUT if all you want is your opinion, then the earth might be flat etc

So frustrating! Incredible science reduced to stuttering incoherence: I sense there are breathtaking discoveries here but found the complete lack of flow utterly distracting. Please can this story be re-presented by a better communicator?
