There is a shortage of transcribers, so there is always work to be done. That’s great to hear that your friend can make a living doing what they love.

Thank you for this video. I've been going down a 'rabbit hole' trying to gather all of this information and this makes simplifies everything. I've printed out my coloring sheet and ready to begin.

This step-by-step tutorial is helpful and takes some of the fear out of starting the process. ……. I love the elephant tracking sheet.

Hi, thank you for this comprehensive video. I am currently on Lesson 19--almost there, close to the finish line! Yay! Although, I could use some assistance, wondering if you could refer me to a tutor--instructor?

Do you have 2 of 3 available? I am struggling to find it. Thank you for your video and help! Your helping me helps our visually impaired college students.

National Federation of the Blind administers the literary braille certification course in the USA. According to their website, most transcribers are volunteers. But it is possible to get paid work, such as working for a school district or for a braille publishing house. The difficult part about getting into the field is that potential employers want you to have experience transcribing, but how can you get experience if no one will hire a new grad? Are you thinking of becoming certified?

Fascinating stuff. How long did you say the whole process takes? What I mean is how long does it take to get certified.

For me it took a little less than 2 years and I think that's pretty typical. But it depends on a lot of factors, like how quickly you get your homework back from the school, how long you have to wait to submit your homework between revisions (it varies by grader), and what other time commitments you have going on, like work, raising kids...

What if you want to be a transcriber but you are based in Africa, how can one get help?

That's exciting that you want to become a braille transcriber. Are you in either Nigeria or South Africa? If so, they are both members of the ICEB (International Council on English Braille) and they offer resources for learning braille. Maybe try searching the web for: "your country+braille transcription". Or "your country+UEB braille".

Have you joined our Facebook group? It is very active. If you wanted, you could ask in the FB group of anyone wants to be your study partner.
