Not if, as scientists speculate, the other planet hit proto-Earth at an angle. By doing this, it blew the other planet apart, started the spinning of the Earth, and caused the debris that eventually came together to form the moon. It makes sense, and there are computer models showing how this would be entirely possible.

great video, here is my question. Such impact would have eliminated all water and genetic material on earth. where did the water and the bio-chemicals come from after such impact for earth to create life?
@CuddleCuttlefish

Good question. Scientist are actually still to this day wondering how there is water on earth. Even not looking at this event, the earth in it's earlier stages would be way to hot for there to be any water on it, it all would have evaporated a long time ago, and water doesn't just appear out of the blue. One popular theory however: meteors. Usually when we imagine meteors we imagine a classical stone rock. But meteors can come in all shapes and sizes and consist of many different materials. Meteors containing H2O in form of ice are actually not very rare. It is possible that after the earth had cooled down enough, it was over a very very long period of time, bombarded with meteors containing ice. This ice, of course, turned to water. "Okay", I hear you say, "The earths surface area consists of 70% water, that would require a lot of meteors if each one only consist of some ice". That is a good point, even if the meteors all had a high concentration of ice, it would require a LOT of meteors to get the amount of water there is on earth today. However, currently, it is a good theory. We are talking about a lot of time here, often we really don't get how long. And in earlier times, there was a lot more debris floating around our solar system, as they said in the video, planets were constantly bombarded. Considering how much time we are talking about, and the more active bombardment of planets in earlier times. It is possible the earth was hit with enough meteors containing ice to give it its water.

The collision that formed the moon was by a rocky object which would have vaporized any surface water which would have been lost to space. Any water deposited by comets must have come in separate incidents. Water from earth's interior, present since its early formation, would also have emerged from volcanoes.

Earth and Moon have slightly elliptical orbits, e.g. angular size of Sun is from 0.9833 to 1.0151 AU. Moon's orbital eccentricity is even more. It was measured that Moon's distance to the Earth increases. However, the diameters of the Earth and Moon are also growing. These facts are denied by an official science. There were also publications that a system Earth-Moon is unstable and the Moon is tilting axis of the Earth to 60deg. Instability happens every 1 B years. The Moon is younger than 1 B.

how would the moon and earth both be such nice sphere shapes though?.. i mean, when one thing crashes into another doesn't it usually turn out looking sharp and deformed? i know that they aren't in perfect shape, but they aren't lop-sided as i would expect something that got hit to be.. what would have been able to shape it?

I don't get my information from 'mass media'. Most journalists couldn't write about science if their life depended on it as they generally have art degrees. I get it from a place that many people don't know about. My information comes from peer reviewed science journals. Perhaps you could do a search and find out what they are about. BTW the information contained in this video is taken from papers published in peer reviewed science journals.

Sarcasm of your reply is funny. Please, accept for a minute that we know almost nothing about the Universe and very little even about our own planet. As for aliens, I would say they are completely different from what you can only imagine. Life forms as self-organizing and self-reproducing structures are everywhere in our Solar system as well as outside of it. You can hardly imagine how these aliens may live at the Moon, other planets and space around the Sun. So, you better wait till revelation.

Being a 'scientist' yourself you should be ashamed of this comment. If you had done your research you would have found that in the past the angular size of the Moon from Earth was larger and it will be smaller in the future. You will also find that the angular size of the Moon is not always the same as the Sun. That is the reason why there are annular eclipses. As I write this the Moon's angular size is 31.5 arc minutes while the Sun is 31.7 arc mins. Close but not exact!

The computer simulation seen at 7:50 in the video shows that "...the impactor is completely destroyed by the collision..."-- which is what every explanation of this moon formation theory also says. I think you are just grasping at straws to justify your interest in the "Nibiru" nonsense, but this video does not support any such interpretation (nor does the "Mayan calendar" or anything other than internet crackpottery.
@jrjubach

You wouldn't think the impactor would have been traveling fast enough in relation to the Earth to create such a collision, or knock the existing Earth so far off its axis to the tilt we know today. The two "proto-planets" were forming at the same distance from the sun, and their contents were revolving at roughly the same speed.

And finally, after that colossal impact, at the end of the story, the moon give us the same face without any spin movement, after millions of impacts from the accretion disk. How could believe that story?

The collision that formed the moon was a glancing blow which did indeed melt-- but not destroy-- the earth. Even vaporous material will re-coalesce from gravity. Where else would material go? It can't just disappear from existence.
